I might be down for a used seat if its cheap and no one else wants it evan. Why is it bad to have a harnessbar and harnesses in a car with the original seats? The back breaking loose and slamming into the bar?

by harness bar i mean a harness-only bar like this
[Image: wrxharnessbar.jpg] (as opposed to a harness bar section of a full rollbar)

harnesses with no rollover protection is unacceptable and extremely unsafe, and even the bar itself can pinch a passenger underneath it in a rollover/roof collapse.

that is one reason it is bad, the other (more important reason) is that when you do not have rollover protection, but you have harnesses, in the event of a roof collapse, your head becomes the rollbar. factory seatbelts and seats are designed to allow your body to pivot forward or backward when the roof collapses. harnesses hold you straight up

imagine this
[Image: wMjk0NTIzNnM0MTNkZmQzMXk1NDE%3D.jpg]
if your body was being held rigid upright. yup, you would be dead.
as it happened, both driver and instructor were wearing stock belts and were forced forward under the dash in the impact. both were fine. (it happened at summit btw)

I would probably be interested in a used corbeau because I think that would be ideal for the passenger seat. I'll take a look at that momo seat, I hadn't looked at any of their seats yet.

I didn't even know what a plain "harness bar" was until u posted the pick up there, I thought you were taking about the kind build into a roll bar.

I am looking into getting an autopower bar for my e30 sometime within the next year. I currently have corbeau a4s which are reclinable. Would I be able to safetly run harnesses with these seats or should I get fixed back seats?

fixed are much better (not only in saftey, but in butt holding ability), but its not a huge concern. you dont want that reclinable collapsing or shearing under the bar

are the reclinables really that dangerous or is it just a "it could happen." I don't want fixed in the daytona but I will have fixed backs in the omni. The daytona is the one getting all the attention now however, that having been said, is it so bad to have recliners and I might as well not get them at all? I think I have my parents talked into the "expensive safety gear for X-mas" idea.

everything I say is in the context of heavy track use.
for street cars, you can get away with less ideal saftey setups, since its pretty damn unlikely that you are going to roll your car at 100mph

Thats what I figured. You are going to be racing soon arn't you? For an HPDE up thought level like 3 (yeah, I'll never even get to 2 lol) a recliner would be fine?

"fine" is relative, but yes it should be good enough. ideally if you are set on the reclinables, you would cut a hole for the 5th point in the seat. (and properly sew seams if you have the skillz)

well Evan brought it up, and he drives a miata.....

i'm glad i caught this thread, i'll be looking into track safety gear soon (hoping for a helmet and gloves this xmas). the thing is, i actually like my stock seats! after sitting in RJ's car though, some nice racing seats would be great, even for getting to work and stuff....but i have a feeling The Wife won't be pleased.

I love the Chrysler Recaros but they arn't as supportive on my fat ass as I would like. They are nice around the sides and the forward leaning headrest is bangin...but I don't like the bottom. I would rather spend money on aftermarket seats then OEM enthusists...even if they are the pimpest

so what are your thoughts on the sparco circuit:
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.sparcousa.com/pseats_comp.asp?id=512">http://www.sparcousa.com/pseats_comp.asp?id=512</a><!-- m -->

yeah its expensive but the side head restraints must be very helpful. If this were in a streetable car, would the head restraints cause horrible blind spots or would they be dangerous to the head without a helmet on?

Also, when you buy a harness, what else do you have to buy with it. I assume you would have to buy a bunch of mounting stuff, but I dont really know what would be necessary.
