hit I-75N at precisely 5:00 pm today. the thing i hate about that highway is you'll be doing a solid 80mph then come over a rise, and it's 6 lanes of nothing but stopped cars. my hawk pads have been getting hella worked over these past few days :thumbdown:

and people stop at the stupidest times. Going steady after some stop and go today tand the pick-up in front of me thinks it's cool to stop quickly. Add for rain, reaction time, and diistance, had to S my car while on the brakes so not to get closer than was decent.

And with all those lanes, you'd think people would be going somewhere.

It's only getting worse. Northern Virginia is not ready at all for the growth it's experiencing, in a lot of different ways. Lack of roads is one of the most noticeable. They're going to have to do something...50 in Chantilly going towards 66 for example is a freakin nightmare. Apparently they're going to widen the Greenway, but we're pretty much going to be putting bandaids over lacerations with any road improvements we do from here on.

You do learn when to leave though. It just means you have to wake up an extra hour or two earlier =/

Somebody tell me the best way to get from work (Rockville) to home (Arlington). I can do it in under a half hour in the morning, but it's usually like an hour 15 on the way back at rush hour (270-495-66, which I'm sure you guys will tell me are the worst three roads to take).

It's almost enough to dissuade me from my next car having a manual tranny.

More roads won't solve the problem. More roads equals more intersections, which means more commute time. What they need are smarter roads with lights that are patterned to flow with traffic and better policies for fender benders and police. Have you noticed that a cop pulling somebody over for an expired tag or a minor fender bender will cause a 5 mile backup?

We definitely need more roads coming from high density areas (the community I build is the perfect example). We're going to eventually have 7,700 homes, and right now there's only two conduits out of the community. One is a 2 lane paved road that dumps onto 50 and the other is a dirt road hah. What needs to be done on the highways is WIDENING.

I agree that rubbernecking is the most annoying thing about traffic, but I don't see any solution to that ever. It's just a given in heavy traffic.

More roads = more people. If commute times get lower, more people will move in... The roads will always be full, it's just the way it works.

Right inside the beltway - exit 69 off 66, about a mile from the East Falls Church metro.

Then you should take the Clara Barton Parkway towards DC, cross Chain Bridge, go down Glebe, and then take a right on to Williamsburg, which will turn into Sycamore (exit 69).
