NOVA traffic can eat a dick - bassmangrammy - 06-02-2005

I'm not sure why anyone would want to like in NoVa. I had to drive up to rockville MD today to drop off an E46 M3 that is having its transmission put in the racecar for saturday.

I left at 3:15...After fighting traffic (oh...traffic isn't bad when you are going the opposite way of the flow...bullshiTTT!!!!!) on the way up and coming home in heavy traffic too, I arrived home about 10:30.

Now I'm tired and I've decided I'm never moving anywhere near NOVA. How can you guys f'in live there?

- G.Irish - 06-02-2005

Choose your spots, take the metro. Go to work early so you can beat rush hour or work in a corridor that doesn't have much traffic (i.e. Fairfax County Pkwy). Anytime you get on the beltway you are very likely to get fucked.

- bassmangrammy - 06-02-2005

yeah...I guess trying to keep pace with a 16 year old in an M3 didn't help the ease of travel.

- mpg9999 - 06-03-2005

Nova for life, born and raised. Its not bad when you know nothing else Wink. Just gotta know where not to be and when.

- ViPER1313 - 06-03-2005

I'm with you Aaron, I'm getting new tires for the GL so I have AC + Automatic Tranny + less stop-n-go miles on the SHO - screw rush hour traffic. I feel no need to shift first-second-first for 45min every morning, and it's hard to use 220hp when traffic is moving 5mph Cry .

- Mike - 06-03-2005

there is no "opposite way" on the beltway.

- Myuki - 06-03-2005

ehn, i left my house in richmond at like 1:00 abd hit traffic at the mixing bowl cause 495 heading towards Baltimore had one lane closed. so a lot of time shifting in low gears...grr

also, while i was heading to Blair's from my grandparents house, it was heavy 7:00 pm traffic for the area around route 50 and route 123

nothing annoying though, except there are a lot of poor drivers...

You just gotta pick your spots, know when and when not to hit certain roads, know the alternate routes when the main ones suck, and when all else fails, you just remember "hell I just gotta do this today, the rest of these fuckers deal with this everyday".

Matt - Who loves his 25 minute commute on a bad day here in NoVA.

you just have to know how to get there, living in northern va helps you to know the right routes to take. From h-burg traveling around the time you did i probably would've taken 81 N to 340 East/North to 270 towards DC.

I remember going from Rockville to arlington and it took me 3.5 hours....it's at max a 30 minute drive without traffic.

Actually there is no opposite way on 66. I take the Beltway to work every day to Old Town, and 90% of the time I can drive 80mph the entire way. That's mainly because nobody commutes in the morning on the outerloop going east/north, and vice versa in the evening. On the western and northern side of the beltway, that's a different story...

At a certain point, no car is fun to sit for extended periods of time without moving.

That's why you put left foot down in bumper to bumper, and go through the gears making racing noises.

I too hate nova traffic. My girlfriend and I went to nova to pick up the spoiler for my car in december. Mapquest said it should have taken about an hour and a half each way....we left at 3pm and didn't get back until after 11pm. I didn't really think about it and hit the beltway at 5pm.....big mistake.

It's called you don't. On a weekday it's tough to get me out of the house.

- .RJ - 06-03-2005

Weekday? Any day.

- Mike - 06-03-2005

Hrm... if I'm not at the rtack or doing something else, yeah it's tough to get me out of the house. <3 me some lazy video game days.
