Alright boys, so let me update you on this.
So, a few things happened and space became an issue. Sold the G27 and forgot about sim racing for a number of years. PC has been humming on swimmingly and I'm now running a gtx 1080 and some other additional goodies, upgraded the monitor and cooler, had some fun times with various games and my steam back log. My roomate and my best friend ended up getting Rift's for the summer of Rift event and I did as well, and with PC2 on the horizon and GT next month, I thought it was high time to delve back into this. Got a prebuilt rig with racing chair and stand from GT Omega, another g27 from an MM'er and my rift in.
Guys, VR is the future. The resolution is low but you actually have depth perception. It's a game changer for me. It takes a while to get over the nausea a bit but with like dirt rally or something, it's insanely immersive. I haven't played with iRacing or anything like that, but I can definitely tell you that I'm way too much of a hack to race at a competitive level at any point soon. Still. If you're in town and want to try it out, let me know. It's a tough to explain exactly what it's like.

The xbox one x is supposed to be powerful enough for vr, isn't it? My plan was to get one of those and then eventually a wheel setup for Forza and (I imagine pc2 will be available on the Xbox, right?) It would be cool to do vr stuff but I don't think I want to do of gaming. I feel like consoles are more casual gaming which is more my style. Of course a wheel sim setup isn't really casual at all so I contradict myself. I know nothing about gaming setups. The fantec wheel looks ballin but the price is enough to buy a Miata roller lol.

That's what the say but Xbox hasn't released details on what their headset is going to be like, or if they even have one planned. You can't use the rift or a vive on it, same for the PS4. PS4 VR is not nearly as good as the Rift that I use (lower resolution, worse frame rate) but it's cheaper. Get yourself a ps4, a g29 and a ps4 vr and you'd have something similar to my set up, albeit with less games you can play.
Fanatec is crazy expensive and I'm sure it's worth it if you devoted your life to this sort of thing. I'm not okay with spending 1k on a single peripheral though, that's like the cost of my whole setup (well... minus the pc).

I think I'd rather just have the Xbox than a VR setup. I like Forza better than Gran Turismo I think. At least gt never impressed me in the past. I'm sure it'll get some type of vr support in the future though.
And yea I don't think I could stomach the cost of the fantec new. Maybe try to find one used or do a g29. I think they have a lower end fantec (still kinda pricey) that you can build up over time to make it as good as the good one but I haven't looked into too much. These are all way down the road. Once the price of the Xbox drop a little bit.

Had a couple of MM'ers try out my rig and we got some good VR drivers in our midst, gents. Much better than me.
Forza 7 looks like it's fixed a lot of it's issues with the VIP pass so I'm picking that up here in a few weeks. I've downloaded the GT demo but haven't tried it yet...
We got 3 major simracing titles all within a month of each other. Pretty awesome stuff. Too bad only 1 out of those has native VR support, but it's to be expected. I'm happy with PC2, way too much content for my current time restraints anyways.

Zombie thread but I know some of you guys still do a lot of sim racing especially since COVID has messed up total track time and I'd like to get back into this.
I sold my rig after not using it much in 2018, and want to get back into now. The environment hasnt changed much, Thrustmaster and Fanatec are still the big dogs and Logitechs venerable G29/920 is everyone's go to beginner wheel.
BUT Logitech just announced the follow up to the G29/920 so lots of deals on those right now directly from the logitech website. I ordered a small stand that folds up and can quickly be stowed out of the way and a thrustmaster 300 (which I'll probably return and just get a g29 on sale).
What have you guys been doing lately in your sim racing careers? Anyone killing it in iRacing?

I sold my setup but recently got a 20+ year old Microsoft SideWinder Gforce wheel that only really works with AC. Hoping to get a better setup again soon.

Damn, the OG. That was the first force feedback wheel on the market IIRC, and it's pretty impressive AC supports it.

I don’t get on as much as I would like but can fit in one 30 minute race and 10 minutes of practice every 1-2 weeks. Makes it pain ful to pay the subscription fee every time but I’m stubborn and think I’ll find more time to do it.

I'm probably selling my logitech setup soon if anyone wants it. Basically just got used for Turducken and that's it. It was awful trying to use it in Forza which is what I mainly got it for.
Logitech wheel is pretty good with F1 on xbox

The time factor is the hardest part. Especially since there is always a set up factor involved if you use your daily PC for your racing sim too. That was the biggest limitation of my old rig, it felt like it took 30 to 45 minutes just getting everything to work properly everytime I sat down (VR didnt help that either). I'm moving to a smaller setup and just using my monitor now.
So I ordered a Thrustmaster (heh) T300rs GT and will be mounting it to a GT OMEGA Pro stand. I've had this wheel before and it's a pretty nice upgrade from the logitech architecture because it's belt driven. The G29 wheels (and the new one) use a helical plastic gear that can be notchy and isn't quite as smooth. For about the same price, you can get a T300rs that also can also be upgraded with better pedals, shifter and the like.
I preordered the G923 without researching and realized it's basically the same wheel as the G29, with just some extra features; the guts are about the same.

I have an Xbox 360 with a good setup; is there a way to race any of you?

No.
To Xbox One, PS4, or PC. If you want to play with "us" PC players can play with Xbox players in Forza 7. My point being is the Xbox 360 will soon be two whole generations old. Not everyone is playing iRacing.
