What we're already seeing (through friends that have kids in elementary school) is that Fairfax County is bussing kids from over crowded school districts throughout Fairfax County out to Herndon elementary schools that aren't overcrowded (yet). Again, through observation of my friends (one of which is a teacher) the VAST majority of the bussed kids are spanish-only/mostly speaking homes and don't know the English language very well. I can only imagine how frightening that is for a new student. The schools/teachers are having to restructure their lesson plans to teach to all students since this was apparently a last-minute decision relative to the start of the school year this year, but the language barrier is an issue. I'll have to follow up with them soon to see how the year is going since their oldest son went into Kindergarten this fall.

I learned from parents in Loudoun county that some of the kids in their neighborhood are getting bussed from Sterling to Leesburg (about 20-30 min away without stopping and in no traffic) because they were late to register them with the local elementary schools that don't have the space. The population density changes appears to be fixed by the bussing, but i can't help but think there are other socio-economic factors that are also in-play.

FWIW, my parents lived in Fairfax Station and the high school was Hayfield... and this was before 7100 was finished. It was at least 45 min by bus, if I remember correctly.

Oh this is fun...I went to a "magnet school" (read bus in smart kids to raise test scores) that was about 2 miles from my house and had ~50 min ride because I was the start of the route.  IIRC i did a lot of math homework on the bus ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It’s not the job of the school system to implement a socioeconomic experiment in order to fix a problem of no affordable housing anywhere in this county and lack of public transport in the western part of the county.

That stuff honestly bums me out. Seattle is probably just a few years away from being as bad as SF. I'm not ready to move tomorrow, but I doubt we'll be in Seattle three years from now. Where we end up will depend a lot on job stuff. In the US, maybe Colorado? That's about the only other place we'd both want to live.

i've got a cousin in Loveland.  they love it there, but man is it growing fast.  seems to be a common factor with any big town on the front range.  depending on where you are though, that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Seattle was a small city and we loved it here. Now it's a big city with big city problems. I have no complaints about the last eight years, because we've done pretty well... but really the only way to escape the dumb ass politics is to move out of the suburbs. (Remember, we have no state income tax so everything is a levy on property passed by the far left city council.) The suburbs just aren't our thing, so it's a balancing act.

I think anywhere today is about trying to stay ahead of the curve. Most tech hubs (e.g. Austin, Minneapolis) have exploded, Even relatively low employment places like Hood River and The Dalles in Oregon are seeing things grow fast because of remote tech workers setting up shop. Tech jobs have been my golden goose, but they definitely change a place.

"Nature lovers, Kayakers/Canoers, Bikers, Hikers, Outdoor people...

The proposed Virginia firearms legislation (2020 Session SB16) will negatively impact your hobbies in the Commonwealth, within a couple of years, if it is passed. Your hobbies rely on Pittman-Robertson Federal Aid in Wildlife Restoration funds to keep our public lands open, in good shape, and to protect the wildlife on those lands.

Hunters, Firearms enthusiasts, and Anglers through the Pittman-Robertson Act have voluntarily taken on a 10 to 11% tax on all hunting gear, firearms, ammunition, archery equipment, etc. to maintain and save the public wilderness. Your bike parts, hiking boots, binoculars, etc. do not contribute to public land conservation. 75% of most state wildlife budgets are comprised of Pittman-Robertson Act funds… the other 25% comes from hunting license and park entry fees.

I don’t care what side of the firearm debate you stand on, enacting state wide firearm bans, without a Pittman-Robertson Act amendment (a solution to replace those funds), is irresponsible and will degrade the 610 million acres of public land (and the populations of wildlife on them) that WE own.

It is time for you to put some skin in the game… Call your representatives and encourage them to support a Pittman-Robertson Act amendment to add a tax to your outdoor gear and equipment to help save our public lands."

Anyone who could read knew the only impeachment question that actually was unanswered was "How will the final articles read?" 

Anyone who thought
A: that the House wouldn't impeach Trump or
B: that the Senate would concur and remove Trump from office or
C: That this would have any real measurable impact on our political landscape 

Isn't stupid or anything, just maybe overoptimistic.


But maybe I'm wrong and the Senate will grow a conscience and people will realise that we're all on the same team and cooperate to Get Things Done...

It only puts on stage and consolidates both how disorganized and uncoordinated the Democrats are, and the GOP's long standing position of party before country. So in short, nothing new and its just one more train car crashing off the tracks. I guess its up to the next administration to decide if they want to start reeling in executive privilege or not.
