Good call on CSF. Love mine. Yes ducting and hood vents in the proper place helps significantly...

one theory is the radiator is old, abused, etc... and its probably got some clogs in it. it works well enough but not enough when you beat on the car... especially when you push the limits of gearing/revs.
my 5.1 FD in the B16 keeps me in Vtec at all times... even in T1/T4/Oaktree... the slowest corners on the track, 3rd gear, i'm in vtec. My gauges are off a little... they have to be. My ECU would put me in limp mode if i were actually at +225... it would let me rip to 290 on the oil though.

The best family in the NASA MA paddock...
Here are this years 3 rookies I share my love for beast of the east every time it comes up... talking with Edgar over the weekend, the mixing up, the different ways to set up a pass, all the thing we need to learn and perfect happen often during these races. I love it. good news... data says i can run up front... bad news... i have to string a lot of stuff together and do it lap after lap. I consistently picked up a metric ton of speed in south bend and coming off the back straight. Data says my braking at VIR is vastly improved from my flatspot-fest at comp school. Video (mine, Edgars, Zacks, and Marks) shows me out braking almost everyone... bad news, i'm over slowing for several corners (T1 and oak tree are killing me). my gearing is where i want it... and it will "be better" once i get better left foot braking. I came smashing into hog pen, floating the rev limiter and adjusting with the brake (slightly) and was able to carry 5mph more. I nearly smashed into Zack and Mark... i need a smidgen more RPM in the tune and i'll be good.

Better late than never… pictures will come later I guess…
I took a passenger out to give me some pointers… Edgar made some adjustments to how I take T3, had me quicken some stuff up the esses, had some pointers for T10… and a BUNCH of other stuff. I went out in the race and applied the T3/Esses/T10 combo and hit a personal best of 2:16.5 Sunday the rain hits and I start working my way from the back of the pack in Beast of the East… I was headed to grid and we had to wait for a busted E30 to make a 30 point turn… they gave the 3 minute call while I was waiting in line. I should have just truly started in the back and started from pit out… but I didn’t. I started 41st and got up to 25th in 1 lap before my ECU went into limp mode. Before the afternoon race I reloaded the map with some help of the HC fam… I was good to go… but my starter (yes the new one) was making noises (yay life time warranty). It was dry and I was starting from the back of the HC field. The rain had washed away some grip and it made me pay. After a pass on Hunter (accord wagon) in southbend I started gapping him and started closing on Zach and Marcus… Marcus lost 4th gear on the back straight away, so I was chasing Zach with Hunter behind me…. I enter turn one trying to hit my marks from the 2:16.5 lap and flat spotted the crap out of my front passenger tire and went to visit the grass in T1. With my off, Zach was gone and Hunter was around me… I drove the car through the mud and entered safely. Two laps later I was back on Hunters bumper…. But I couldn’t brake normally for T1 or oak tree without the front passenger tire locking up. I tired to creep a pass under braking in T1 anyway and went off to mow the grass again…. Hunter flies by. It took all I had to pedal the car through the mud again and catch Hunter… on the last lap I hosed oak tree (because of braking issues) and couldn’t catch him. Good news… I pulled a 2:16.5 in the race with flat spotted tires… is it march yet? I need to get into the 2:15s. I was also the only driver in HC to pull the same times both Saturday and Sunday… everyone else was slower on Sunday. I’ll take the little wins. Summit Point prep includes a new splitter, swapping tires out, new rotors, a new rain light (having a removable trunk has me ripping out wires), etc. This winter is going to be rough… I need to find a 96-00 coupe roof to put on the car ASAP.

Easy Summit Point recap... the gremlin that shut the car down at VIR (that was "fixed" by reloaded the map) hit again 5 laps into qualifying and i had smoke coming from under the hood.
I spent the entire Saturday checking timing, reloading maps, swapping distributors, etc... nothing got it to run. Its currently backfiring through the intake while mechanically 100% in time (we checked it 3 times).

hey man, take the little wins. consistency means you're getting more and more familiar with your setup, and you can't get to that point any other way than seat time. your determination is paying off.

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth
