Hyperfest 2019 - VIRginia International Raceway May 17-29

Hyperfest is the ultimate motorsports destination and this year it's at VIR on May 17th, 18th and 19th. NASA Road racing, Drifting, Lawn Mower Racing, Burnout contests, RallyCross, Bike racing, car shows and much more! This weekend is the weekend most of us anticipate all year and there is NO reason not to make out. Hotels are on site and nearby, but the best action is camping out with everyone either in the camping area or the NASA paddock if you're lucky enough. DO NOT MISS THIS EVENT!

Who is going? Who is working?

I'll be there working Friday night through Sunday I believe. Rolling in Thursday night. Not sure what car I'll have with me, but if I'm driving on track, it'll be Sunday only. I don't think we're doing a burnout car this year.

Working Full Time:

Working Part time:

Helpers:

Camping (Only need the name of the person with the tent):

Attending (Other):

Camping/Parking

1) Unless you have a NASA pass, you're parking in the big Field outside the NASA paddock. (To your right after crossing the bridge)

2) Camping is technically only in the camping areas outside the paddock (think the areas on the road before you pass the pond on your left and stop at the stop sign in the paddock near the gas station). A camping pass is required

3)We usually get away with non workers camping by the showers in the NASA paddock without a camping pass, but you'll need to park outside the paddock (see 1)

4) since you can't park in the paddock without working, it's safe to assume you'd be sleeping in your car in the lot, which will not fly with the VIR people since you'd be cheating the system

So either your options are, Get a NASA pass and sleep in your car in the paddock, or get a camping pass and sleep in a tent in the paddock (leaving your car in the lot) or camping with the non NASA people outside the paddock. MM'ers that need a camping pass, please post up here.

All students camping should get together and think about whose vehicle will be most useful to get in and out of the paddock and use that one. Ditch all the rest in the parking lot. (smart money says someone with a pickup or large vehicle should be chosen)

Signed up for instructing/TT last week. I also have a hotel room with one King bed at the Best Western in Danville. Double bed they wanted an exuberant amount. So, I'll have minimal floor space. If anyone wants to share that huge bed we can split the cost of the room ($60 each a night)

I really want to drag the Demon out to this for just about everything. Burnout, hyper drive, touring lap, etc. but it just seems like a real hassle. Won't have a paddock pass so not sure how having a trailer is going to work, not to mention parking the car in a complete mud pit with drag radials. I could probably setup camp somewhere along the road going into the paddock like the drifters did and just sleep in the back on my truck. Not sure if that required some kinda special pass or not but from the looks of it last year there were exactly 0 people that knew anything about anything going on.

Send it. It will probably break, but send it.

I would honestly be shocked if VIR somehow policed people camping. We had to pay $50 to camp, but that was because we had an RV. People setup tents everywhere during hyperfest. The drifters are like a fucking hobo camp. In the years I've been the only thing I have ever seen them do is police who is enerting the paddock with a vehicle (for good reason).

I've been told that MMers jobs this year will be to go around and make sure people are paying for camping because it's ran by NASA this year.

I know it's not super likely but I'm more worried about it being stolen. Leaving it out in a field around a bunch of people I don't know all night so I can drink in the paddock with you guys just isn't something I really wanna do. I've seen entirely too many stories of cars being stolen at shows and even right off trailers at drag races. Granted an overwhelming majority seem to happen in hotel parking lots but still not something I think I wanna try. On the other hand I didn't build this thing to not drive it.

There's a police presence on the property, and I think it is incredibly unlikely that if you lock your doors, anything bad will happen to it.

I think it's unlikely as well but it would take even an idiot car thief about 5 seconds to pop my locks and probably even less time to hotwire it. The wires are all exposed and even all labeled lol. Probably all things I need to address at some point. Could probably just do the old fashioned anti-theft stuff like crossing spark-plug wires and disconnecting the battery in the trunk to make them at least work for it a bit. IDK I'll have to reach out and see how they're handling the VIP parking this year because it was a shit-show last time. Might not even be an issue.

I'll be there in the EG hatch doing the track day option sat/sun, breaking in the Spoon calipers and hopefully not breaking in the roll cage.  If you see someone who looks suspiciously like jesus hanging near a multi-colored EG, come say hi.

Please for the love of all that is holy, dont call it that!!! My side windows had to go so the cage can protrude further into the doors and there's no AC so defrost doesnt really work and im not sure my instructor wants to be swabbing the windshield all weekend/getting a constant bath Smile

*applying more anti-fog shit on the windscreen intensifies*
