I think, maybe, you're just unlucky. My wife drove a manual Saab 900 when I met her Then a manual Civic. Then a manual Mazda3.

I like that Taylor positioned keeping your foot on the brake as a hardship. As if you don't have to do this with a manual. Also, we have Park.
I rarely have my foot on the brake at stop lights. I'm usually in neutral with both feet relaxed in the floor board and slight pressure on the hand brake if I'm feeling froggy. Same for stop and go. I like how a manual car does move unless you want it to or you're on a hill.

Oh do I have the car for you

I'm ready for an automatic now tbh. All this shifting between stoplights and traffic is getting old, roads here aren't meant for whipping anyways.

Jumping in now for Taylors other side of this argument where he complains that a manual is bad for him physically just after praising how much better it is ...emotionally?

either lucky or unlucky, depending on which way the wind is blowing that day, because she enables my car bullshit.

Yeah, I'm lucky in that aspect too. Alissa had already given me the green light on whatever I want to replace the gti, whenever that happens; I'm the only one holding me back there. She acknowledges my choices without question (for the most part), which is great.

Hot take: You're not lucky because your decisions require spousal approval.  Cool

My wife preferred the F31, which I did too. Her only request was that we not buy one in white. Oops.

Don't move to Settle. The city is the second hilliest in the US, behind SF. Parallel parking the 911, with manual steering and ridiculously stiff clutch, is pretty miserable.

This too, you chose poorly.  My wife drove a manual when we met and when we went new car shopping last fall, her two requirments were a sunroof and a manual transmission.

... and what did you buy? This wouldnt be much of a problem if it wasnt so damn hard to buy a car with a manual, they either dont exist or only exist in base model trims.

If the F31 came in manual this thread would have never happened. Although I did talk to BPC about converting one, but it would have to go RWD, BMW never sold a N20+xDrive+Manual combo.

If we're going down this rabbit hole, what's stopping it? Xdrive electronics? Mechanicals not matching can be solved with monies.

Meh. Since we both contribute to the income I feel it's only right to discuss how we spend our income; I respect my wife so it's something I would consider disrespectful if I just chose how we spend quite a bit of our money.

I discussed the GTI purchase with my wife. I didn't need a green light.

Then again, both my wife and I have slush funds so we can spend it however we want - no questions asked.

She doesn't work, so her slush fund comes from my income. I imagine this is kinda what it feels like to pay alimony.

Not sure why you constantly need to validate your own marriage by making people feel bad about theirs. Not all relationships are the same.

I was questioning his manhood, not his marriage, because that's how the internet works. Get it right.

Pretty sure jray knows I'm fucking with him. Not sure what you mean about constantly, as I don't recall other instances.

Fortunately, I don't feel bad. It takes a lot more than that.

This is true. I respect my wife and her role in our family and that makes me less of a man. It's the internet way; I must accept.

On another note to derail this topic even more, I just sat in a beautiful m2 today. RJ... Get that...

One of the best conversations I've ever had with the spouse/SO of a friend was with Alissa. It's imprinted into my memory. Do you remember the topic?

Purpose of this thread be damned.

I don't remember the topic. Was this at RJ's and Gerald's place in Falls Church for Turducken a while ago?

I can only imagine it was a shocking/vulgar conversation knowing Alissa.

I think it was at a brewery in Reston for RJ's birthday like 10 years ago. It involved some disagreeable women near us and their coital habits including their heads through toilet seats. I'm curious if she remembers this conversation because I remember it vividly. Pretty sure I told RJ afterwards that was in love with her.  Big Grin
