Where the hell is this money going to go? You can't give money to the government for a specific purpose. It can be provided as a donation with no conditions. So there is actually zero chances of this money going towards the wall. I'm not sure how GoFundMe can let this go on...

Tongue   I know what you meant, I just like to stir the pot since it's a hot topic for our highway infrastructure right now.

Yeah I mean, I think that would be a cool experiment.  Either have a usage tax with everything, or everything is privately owned and people set the price.  Liberistan would be the freest place on Earth.  Or the most lawless or something.

I'm 100% down with a use tax... but that doesn't fly with liberals because it's not equitable (read: regressive).

I say excuse things like food, clothes, housing from use tax and the playing field is a whole lot more level.

I'm no fan of taxes (ie. lean more Rex's way) but I get that they need to be collected to make the world go round.  I really like this idea specifically.  Americans are vain and love to spend our money on luxuries or useless crap to fill up our homes.  Take advantage of that but my Lord, ease up on the taxes on every other thing I do in my life.  It's suffocating.

I just paid over $5,600 in various federal and state taxes on one paycheck today.... and that pales in comparison to what I was forking out in my days of heavy commissions.  Come on man, I'm gonna get taxed again on the box of tissues I need to go buy to wipe my nose from ugly-crying myself to sleep tonight (just kidding, I'm gonna shop Speedmasters online so I can avoid sales tax  Cool)

And finally straight from one of the many rats of the administration... What we all knew, the US cannot force Mexico to pay for the wall. Of course the educated among us knew this the entire time.

"Technically, you and I both know that it cannot work exactly like that. ... Department of Homeland Security can’t actually spend money from Mexico. We have to get it from Treasury," Mulvaney said during an interview on ABC's "This Week."

I thought everyone knew that was obvious.  My assumption when that was said was that he was wanted to, in his mind, do so through tariffs and lack of economic support to Mexico via other channels.

By making Mexico pay through tariffs, I think do you meant to say American consumer.

No that's the fucking point. These people legitimately think Mexico is going to foot the bill.

the issue is with people actually taking what the cheeto-in-chief is saying/tweeting as the truth. the educated/aware individuals obviously knew that there was no way we could force another country to build/fund a wall in our country, but i'm sure a lot of trump's base took that as Mexico would actually pay for it...

Y'all are giving Trump waaayyyy too much credit. There is no deeper plan or strategy to the vast majority of his pronouncements. You can try to come up with a logical way to interpret his claims, and you will be wrong.

Trump literally meant Mexico was going to pay money to build the wall. You can read the transcript of his call with the president of Mexico where he told him that he needed Mexico to pay so that he wouldn't look bad.

http://time.com/4885584/donald-trump-mex...ript-call/

The Washington Post has the whole transcript if you want to read it.

Trump has also said things like, 'I'll repeal and replace Obamacare on the same day' or 'I'll have a strategy to defeat ISIS in 30 days.' There is no strategy or thought in those statements, it's just him saying things he thinks people want to hear.

Don't forget, he told soldiers in Iraq that he was giving them a 10% raise after years of no raises at all. Fact check - armed forces have received raises every year, and he recently signed off on a 2.6% raise, not 10%.

Fucking liar.

I think this label can be placed on every politician. We tend to track what the highest level of politics actually say... but even at my local level i've had to go blow up a county meeting with quotes from these people websites, campaigns, etc.

Kaan I agree mostly. They all bend the truth as much as possible to benefit themsevles. Trump blatantly lies about things that don't matter or just lies for the hell of it. He knows he's going to get caught, but it doesn't phase him.

Case in point - his tweet that he will own the shutdown. Not even 48 hours later he is blaming the Democrats. What is the point of this lie? He literally tweeted it would be his shutdown. I cannot wrap my head around actions like that.

Or how about his blatant lie to the military members he visited? Does he not know that he approved a 2.6% raise for them or did he really think no one would fact check his statement about a 10% raise after no raises in the last decade? These statements are asinine.

most of them sugar coat it or at least give you the veneer of a policy position.

Trump blatantly lies, every day, all day and changes his story the next day.  He knows there's no truth to it, no one possibly can.  He's a walking piece of clickbait, and the worst thing is and I hate myself for it is that I am following along to see what happens next.

fuck that guy and fuck the GOP.

I mean I can't speak for anyone else but myself, but my point when I go reeeeeeeee taxationistheft is this:

I recognize the reality of men with guns coercing me into forking over the hard earned sweat of my brow. It's theft, plain and simple, even if I also recognize the necessity.

But fuck me if I would rather MY money NOT go to pay for bombing the shit out of Yemeni kids, eh?

Calling taxes what they are, to me, just highlights the even more aggregious offense of the government squandering tax dollars on bullshit. Stealing my money is bad enough, using it to topple other foreign governments is just adding insult to that injury.
