What does that 4.9 put you at top speed wise at redline in 5th? 130s?

Sounds about right. You'll be getting close to that on the back straight at VIR for sure

Yeah, but you're going to be so much faster.

don't be crazy... i'll be lucky to be in that range. I'm roughly 10mph off on street tires.

that's a combination of corner speed/tires and my gearing be too high.

Its an EM1/Ek in the rear... 95% DC/EG up front

its also too ugly (for now) to get stolen lol.

Also children... Uncle Kaan will be keeping his passenger seat in the car... if you want to "slowly" go around the track with me at VIR or Summit.

i'm going to try to respect King Wing and company... prepare for a 3 cup vs. 3 cup beer pong wing... with only Northern Shenandoah Valley Breweries in the growler... paying homage to "king wing" and the paddock escapades

Track Weekend Recap:

Track hangover is in full effect. I blew up 4 distributors on Saturday... had to wait for Advanced to open on Sunday to get one from them (they had to ship it from their warehouse). 2019 will be the year of Coil On Plug... this crap is out of hand.

I used data for the first time this weekend. As expected I'm a little off pace... with the least optimal motor for the track, 150lbs of extra weight in the car, and a stock transmission (outside my Mfactory diff). Sunday I was able to pull a 2:22 with an optimal (all my best sections together) of a 2:19... but with 45 cars on track, holy smokes you are always dealing with something... for me, usually a train of vettes I let by wherever we were.

The pervious car owner (Chad Slagg) runs a chump car setup very similarly to the current engine/power/trans/weight as the civic sits now... and said 2:20 should be the times I run. Im giving up 10mph on all the straights to the vtec cars with prepped transmissions.

looking at my data for VIR... I'm a big sissy at the end of the straights and my 4/5 combo is terrible. The Esses/Southbend and Hogpen seem to be my strengths, as far as closing on people and consistency.

I spent all day yesterday cleaning up the garage (and I still need to work on it) to prep the civic for its new motor (+25hp) and transmission upgrades.

For comp school I need both drivers nets, new belts, and my kill switch wired up.

Pictures will come later...

What caused you to blow up 4 distributors? That doesn't sound normal...

SO... aftermarket distributors aren't known to take heat well. that's part of the issue... talking with some of the guys that used to race the older distributor based Hondas said "put another ground on it." For sunday, I added a ground from the housing to the chassis and it seemed to help (on the new aftermarket distributor).

Some people director a duct from the headlight to the distributor... but overall its a well known issue. most of the guys have a distributor with an external igniter and coil setup. Not many racers are running stock distributors.

Were you in HPDE4?

I jumped out for one session in a Spec Miata in HPDE 4 and I thought I accidentally jumped in HPDE 1.  Lots of trains and people stacking up on each other, I can see why you didn't get any clean laps.

Brings back sweet sweet memories if HPDE3. Mid-Atlantic needs to start cracking down but that requires complaints to Jack

I was in HPDE 3... and they are cracking down. You can no longer "bump" to HPDE4 without being an instructor. AND they now have someone overseeing the HPDE3 group. After the first session they kicked 5 people back to group 2.

There was a high level of shaming going on... They openly call you out in meetings (we only had 2 or 3) and they send out "spy" cars. There are still two people in HPDE3 that I have spent time with in 1&2... and they are pricks with horse power.

There is such a spread of cars, driving talent, etc. in HPDE3 that a clean lap is impossible. BUT I know clean laps are rare in racing or TT... I just know I don't have to wait for a point by on the areas I know I'm faster.

There is a lot left in the car. The front was bouncing a little, the brakes/tires had a little more than I was willing to beat on them with the people I had around me... I need to try to adjust the rear shocks too. They were great "slow" and "fast" but intermediate and transitions it felt pretty snappy.

That's good to hear. Seems like they are taking a good approach. I think doing the combo event with Great Lakes at PittRace really helped set that in motion.

Looks like they need to check into HPDE4 now... That's pretty bad if they are stacking up there.

Keep us up-to-date on the progress! Looking good
