a mid engined vette was right up there with the new supra. the automotive yeti, couldn't be done, nothing but rumors. and here we are.

Hopefully they don't try to pull a NSX and shove it into a technological tour-de-force instead of just building a cool car.

Maaannn I told y'all like a year ago and y'all acted like I was:
I think the base model will probably be a good deal under $100k, with the Z06 at or above $100k. I expect it'll be more expensive across the board than the C7 and will price some people out at the low end. But on the high end this might be the car that pulls a lot of customer away from Porsche, and eats into the used car market for Porsche, McLaren, Ferrari, Audi, et al.
Every generation since the C5, GM has slowly chipped away at all the things I disliked about the Corvette. Now I'm at the point where I have to seriously consider taking the plunge. If they come through with that 9k rpm 5.5 DOHC V8 that's been rumored...I don't think I'd be strong enough to resist.

I can almost 100% guarantee you that GM won't make that mistake. It seems like the Corvette team truly understands that if you start with keeping things simple, powerful, and light; performance will follow. Instead of showing off technology for technology's sake (RJ calls this 'technowankery') they only put in technology that is gonna make the car faster at the right price point. So people make fun of the leaf springs or whatever, but GM doesn't care, they just win (until they overheat).
The 2nd gen NSX was all but doomed from the start because they wanted to put in the eSH-AWD system, come hell or high water. The sad thing is that the Honda CEO at the time probably wouldn't have greenlit the project without the commitment to a hybrid drivetrain, but in doing so they ensured that they'd have a really hard time making the car fast and keeping costs under control. An automotive catch 22 if there ever was one.

the car rags seem to think it will hit $70k I think 100k is a lot more realistic.

Lotus Exige for sale. And a kidney.
I sort of get the NSX thing, but I guess knowing it's a vette, my first thought was "cab forward C7"
Jesus might be weeping but Zora Arkus-Duntov who saved the car a long time ago is wiping his tears and consoling him. I doubt they can support two cars that would cannabalize each other, but it wouldn't be shocking to see them continue with the front engine Corvette and introduce this model as the "Zora".

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth

Speaking of which, I wonder when we'll see the first production car with a blown diffuser. The 600LT is routing exhaust gas over the rear spoiler but no one has done a real blown diffuser yet. Maybe the Mclaren Speedtail, MB Project One, or the Aston Martin Valkyrie will be the first. Gonna make for some insane closing speeds at track days.

I'm sure it might be done for cool points, but the exhaust flow must be pretty insignificant compared to the air displaced by and moving over a (street) car. And unless the engine's going to keep pushing air when you let off the throttle, that little extra downforce goes away when you actually need it.
And I'm still calling this USA NSX a Corvair.

And I'm still calling this USA NSX a Corvair. Yeah I'd have to read up on formula 1 tech articles to get an idea of how much downforce blown diffusers added. I wanna say they were only allowed for 2 or 3 seasons before they got banned. And in that last season one of the teams using it dominated.
One might think it wouldn't work well for a street car, but in the case of these hypercars they'll all have well over 1000 hp, which may actually be more than the 2.4L V8's had, and they don't have to meet any aero regulations so they have more technical freedom to take advantage of trick aerodynamic setups (movable aero being chief among them).
