I've griped about it a lot here but it's mechanically been a good truck and it will be under warranty for a while.  I am just mostly risk averse and considering it rarely gets driven it's not worth my time to worry about what could happen.

Tell your friends!

Which is it - used all the time or collecting dust?  I dunno why DINK's in a finished house need both a truck & a crossover - even if & when the first kid comes that you alluded to, the CX-5 should be enough.  I see so many parent's "over-car-ing" for their 1st or even 2nd kid.  You need to re-Lee yourself and get a something with an absurd amount of power that leaves 11's everywhere Wink

i agree.

I thought i needed a 4-door vehicle of some kind for toting my daughter around. My wife had a wagon and that ended up being the family vehicle. my 2-door hatch was something i lamented in the first 2 years due to the rear-facing car seat, but i rarely used it for kid-transport. As soon as the seat flipped around i actually find it easier to get my daughter into and out of.

I think a 'Lee' vehicle is needed. 4 seats would be helpful if a kid is in your future, but get something you enjoy.

Yeah I guess I should clarify, we use ours all the time for housey-things but mostly because it's way easier to fit a new wheelbarrow or 30 bales of pine straw, etc. in the back of the truck, than the CX5.  It's rarely getting driven on a daily-driver basis since I don't commute, which makes it hard to justify the cost and worry.  I did the math and it's only a few hundred less than I was spending for a 500+hp Jag, and being driven about the same amount.

Which leads me to the high likelihood that I will pay cash for an old 4WD beater truck (Toyota?) like I used to have for the utility things.

Believe you me, if I was single I would have an F-Type R and burn the world (the RWD scary one that tries to kill you) but we are strong OINK not DINK so I've been scrutinizing our costs a lot more as we prepare to have a family.  It's hard to justify the cost of something that I don't really need just because it's nice.  I can get a cheap truck that has the same utility for way less, and if for some reason I start commuting again I'll find something comfy and 4 door or get a brodozer.  I'm also fine with being a one-car family, until it starts to annoy me.

Is this what a pre-mid life crisis looks like?

Just curious, what does your wife do all day? Mine has been at home for about a month due to her layoff and all I hear is how bored she is. Granted she can't go out spending money every day and all of her friends and her sister works so she doesn't have a lot to do especially without kids.

Yeah I can see how that would be really tough, especially getting into the schedule of going to work and then not having that obligation and everyone else is gone during the day.  Rachael is 100% Sally homemaker.  She takes care of pretty much everything around the house (cleaning, dishes, laundry, food shopping) and she actually enjoys doing yard work so sometimes she'll go push the little push mower around and hit the weedeater so we can call off the guy we pay to do it every now and then.  She also does a lot of the personal-life scheduling for us for when we are traveling or heading out to dinner with friends, etc. I don't have time for all that.  I think it helps her that there are a few other moms in our cul de sac that she's become friends with that are also stay at home, so they all go on walks together, she helps them with their gardens and flower beds and such.  I'm also pretty lucky that my wife is frugal and doesn't like to spend money on herself, so I don't have to worry about her going out and blowing money on shoes and purses and stuff like some of my friends' wives do.

I will help out with some stuff around the house and there are "blue" and "pink" responsibilities (I'm usually the one to kill bugs or crawl up in the attic for something) but we have kind of settled in to having that stuff be her "job" while I do the career thing.  When we have kids, she will obviously have her hands more full than she does now and I will probably end up helping a lot more with the chore stuff.  She will be our effective day care though  Cool

So I'd like to hate on all of this because girls can do anything they want to do!!!  LOL.  But seriously though, Rachael is like the best person, and I know that this is the best arrangement for your family! Sometimes I wish she'd come visit me for a couple days cause I need a stay at home wife to do my cleaning and my laundry!!  But f'real, Ya'll got this arrangement on lock down.  But also f'real, kids are a hot mess, so glad you realize that your chore list will increase!

Yeah it's a truck in the south, no sweat. I had a few of the knuckledragger lowball hits from Craigslist almost immediately but I actually used KBB's "Instant Cash Offer" process to see what they said and it was significantly higher than I was expecting. I had a dealer email / text me a few minutes later and after a quick conversation they offered me even more than the instant offer.

So we'll see how this goes this afternoon but their offer is only about a grand less than what I was expecting to get private party and I don't have to deal with private party hassle / bank stuff. And they'll probably sell it this weekend and make money

Dang, that was quick. Congrats on the hopefully swift sale! I totally agree with your idea of getting a cheap used truck for the mulch runs & what not. That makes so much more sense than having a brandy-new truck that you're making $$$ payments on & worry about scratching up, and when you're not doing truck stuff it's kind of a waste, IMO. I remember that old Mustang that you had, so I humbly suggest you get an old-man clean square body F150

And following the light of G & DJ, have you ever considered a E90/92/93 M3? I saw one yesterday that also reminded me of them (sounded incredible) and it really clicked that it could be an excellent Lee-mobile given your wants/needs & tastes

Sounds like we know who should be laying new carpet.

She gone!

Dealership tried to reneg on the offer by about $400 because there was a TINY chip in the windshield above the VIN number (not visible when you look out of it). I gave him the business and he caved and gave me the price they said they would, but they were mostly good people and the truck was nearly flawless when I brought it to them. If they don't flip it this weekend I'll be really surprised.

For sure interested in a clean old reliable truck!  Not so much a BMW  Tongue  I test drove two of them back before the jaag and they were both already feeling rattley and worn out.

We'll see how this one car thing plays out, first big test is this week when my wife leaves again to see her family in WV (re: our long distance solo drive conversation, multiple members have cancer right now so it's extraordinary circumstances).  I'll be bachelor dude stranded at home.
