For real, I’ll ask what probably everyone is going to ask, what do you want from your cars? If you want a track car then I would stick with the E46 instead of getting an E30. If you just want a fuck around, swap, rally, whatever I want car, then yeah E30 would be fun.

Also either way you go, have you accounted for how much you’re willing to spend on the car to get it there?

I’m sorta in the same boat with you on indecision.

I know you’ve mentioned hating depreciation before. Makes it a bitch with these things, eh? You can take care of most of that maintenance, which I’ll even say is a lot, for what one of those MK6’s depreciate in a year or so. Bottom of the curve is a blessing and a curse.

Keep in mind, the car drives and runs fine as is. I'm making it sound worse than it is, but the things I listed are to make it "perfect". None of these things are actual problems yet. The rod bearings are the only things I'm actually worried about at the moment.

While I'd like to get on track, I'm probably never going to do it with any frequency. At 400-500 a weekend for a HPDE, it's way way too expensive for my cheap ass.

Eh, probably time to start looking into selling it. Life's short and I want to own a lot of different cars.

I guess this could go on the homeowners thread as much as this one, but I just got my quickjack set up today. Garage will soon be remodeled.

Throwing on the summer setup in preparation for this weekend(east side) and next (autocross).

So do you have the ramps hooked up to that pancake compressor in the pic? Or does it need a larger compressor?

The air compressor isn't needed to raise/lower it. On the top picture there is a small hydraulic pump in the bottom left corner of the picture. It weighs maybe 30 lbs so it's pretty mobile.

It seems very sturdy from my limited testing yesterday. There's little to no movement at full height even shoving hard on the side of the car.

I am pretty sure I decided to sell this the last time I drove it. I just barely drive the car anymore.

I know I posted that big list of stuff I'd want to do to make it perfect, but realistically the car would be fine to drive across the country as it sets.

Issues:
RTABs probably need to be replaced, but it drives and handles fine as is. I'd guess it would be better with these replaced.
Control arms maybe need to be replaced (can be as cheap as 200, but you should probably get the nicer ones for 530)
Washer fluid reservoir (I'll fix this)
Rod bearings are currently fine, but who knows for how long. Some people make it to 200k on stock rod bearings, some make it to 80k.

If anyone here is seriously interested, let me know. Honestly with a car like this I'd prefer not to sell it to someone I know since the car could have any number of issues show up suddenly. It's been a very reliable example for me, but with old german cars you never know.

Spend the $30 to get a Blackstone analysis on the rod bearings, will help with your sale. I would ignore the RTABs unless you feel "dynamic toe" in the rear on heavy acceleration. Mine would require counter-steering to go straight, at which point I replaced 'em Wink

I can't since I put almost two quarts of new oil in it not too long ago between limping it home from the riteaid and what I had already lost from the timing chain tensioner. I'm sure that would throw their readings way off. Otherwise that was the plan for this oil change.
