I looked at that vinyl. I think its hot garbage.

The caveat to it looking nice is you NEED a very level floor, which is often more work than just putting tile down. Tile doesnt have to be expensive, and its not scary to do.

I like it Confusedhrug: We did it in the basement and ended up loving it more than we thought we would. We didn’t even try to match our main level hardwood and it holds up so damn well.

Helped a lot when our hot water heater leaked into our downstairs bathroom and main rooms. Had to refinish a couple baseboards but obviously the tile was perfect.

Will it look silly in 30 years? Probably, but our main floor hardwood is already scratched to shit in 3 years....

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth

Well, technically I think the wood look tile is more Property Brothers than Fixer Upper, so I'm not sure you can mix the two.

I’ve used sharkbite’s on some hard to configure connections/in a tight space or for quick repairs, but if possible I sweat copper fittings, just looks better in my opinion. After a little bit of practice it’s not so bad, as long as you aren’t in a really tight spot.

Yea just to match existing. Everything in the house is Type M copper.

I was going to just use shark bites but this is pretty involved.

Old

New

Take note: old inlet and outlet are on the top, new one has them on the side. Also need to build this:

Should be fun.

Why make it so complicated? Why not just buy a hot water heater with the same top mounts?

Something looks weird on the new, besides the side mount piping. Is there a 3rd element on the top? Looks like one in the middle and bottom, but I can't figure out what's going on in the top half of the tank.

Looks good where it counts! I like to give it a shoe shine buffing kind of wipe with a wet cloth to remove excess and clean up the copper around the joint. It cools it to harden quickly and makes it pretty.

Never seen this new fangled bottom feed water heater. The 6" heat trap seems odd, do you still need that if the feed is ultimately coming from above the tank? Essentially making for a 4' heat trap?

Well 6 hours of late night work later .. I don’t like having this copper pipe just exposed like this. Can’t be to code. Still need to plumb the condensate drain into my slab.

No leaks as far as I can tell, seems to be heating up. Nothing has blown apart.

Any of yall NOVA people ever had a tree removed from your place? That wind storm the other week had 3 of my neighbors 80' tall pines drop on my place. I cut up the first one and realized that they were way too much wood and brush for me to handle without making 10 trips to the landfill. Called a guy up, and they have quoted me $2000 to remove all the brush, cut the wood into logs, and stack the logs at the edge of the property line.

This to me seems high for already downed trees, but I have no idea the prices in northern va. Anybody got a frame of reference?

we have had a lot of trees removed in our neighborhood in the past few years.... $2k is pretty fair price for all that.
