To be brutally honest I stopped caring what current students are or aren't doing about 5 years ago, so all I have to say is if you think an internet forum is too difficult to use, your first real job is going to sandbag the shit out of you. Running a college car club isn't hard. It's not a burden to maintain a facebook page and a forum with updates on events every couple of weeks.
Now: 07 Porsche Cayman S | 18 VW Tiguan
Then: 18 VW GTI Autobahn | 95 BMW M3 | 15 VW GTI SE | 12 Kia Optima SX | 2009 VW GTI | 00 BMW 540i Sport | 90 Mazda Miata | 94 Yamaha FZR600R | 1993 Suzuki GS500E | 2003 BMW 325i | 95 Saab 900S
Mmm yeah, what Joey said. You need to have the mindset of this being a job, but at the same time, he and I could run all of this from our iPhones before we finished our first coffee of the day.
But iPhones weren't around when we started college and weren't that advanced when we finished college, so we used real computers instead. Also, big boy/girl jobs require you use more than your phone to get things done. And you will get way ahead if you can just communicate.
Life lessons, take note.

This is what you don't say, but as long as the officers are fine with just student involvement besides track days/karting than that's fine.
Damn right boi, better get yo ass on here before I come to hburg and beat your ass in front o all your friends? Is that what you want?

It's not hard to take 5 minutes to make a post on the forum/facebook/twitter/email, yet no one takes the time to do it. It seems like nobody actually cares to run the club. Being an officer is 1) Making the club run and be successful first and 2) Having fun and dicking around.
It's your job to create a good club for others. Some times it's not all fun and games.

You can't just keep saying this. You have to actually DO it.
I've spoken to all of you and you all have said "We think we're doing fine" which is alarming. You're NOT doing fine.

It's honestly disrespectful that we have asked y'all to just UPDATE us in some way, and yet you still don't. How little do you think of us that you can't take 5 minutes to make a thread that says "Hey, we want to do X, Y, and Z this semester" ?
We've gotten like 2 emails this year, and one just said "Come to the track and get some advice".
This is a MOTORSPORTS CLUB for getting people to the track. You are not running this club properly if you aren't jumping up and down, kicking and screaming to get people to come to the track to get ride alongs and driving.
The fact that there is only one officer event posting in this thread is very telling.
The autox IS lined up the car show weekend right?

We fell flat on our face my Sophomore year because we didn't have anyone bitch at us until way too late. We had the big mess, then we kicked it into gear, but it was too late.
I've provided these guys with reminders every month, wrote them a 5 page manual on how to run the club, left numerous examples on what to do. Literally no excuse. We we're just keeping the status quo of what the club was my freshmen year. We didn't know better.
BUT, y'all got on our asses, then when I ran the club, you best believe I was in everyone's face about when events were. It's a necessary evil for someone to get the bad guy so people can learn.

Where's that posted, is it in the car show thread? Is there a schedule for the weekend? Is registration open and if so, where do we sign up? How much does it cost? Is there a discounted entry if you attended the show?
Sorry, I've never autocrossed and am not sure what all to do so I figured I'd default to the officers for guidance.
^^ This is why students don't do shit, you gotta have everything lined up before you announce the thing you're promoting.

Jake Wrote:There's been some contention that the officers largely communicate via GroupMe group chats and don't share much information on the Facebook page or through the forums. It's really hard to get students out to events and communicating/sharing on here if the four leaders can't be bothered to do it either.
groupme's a shitshow, albeit a fun one. i can't keep up with some new one-liner a person says every 15 seconds. i don't know how any of you use it for more than entertainment value. in any case its one of like 4 or 5 ways you need to reach the club so no officers should be relying on it as a primary communication device to the rest of the club.
officers: facebook and forums might not be what the cool kids do and may require you actually need to sit at a computer and make a post, but they're still relevant, and a lot easier to link someone outside the club to in case they want to see detailed info. whether you like it or not, this club has a great alumni presence and officers have to account for ways to reach them as well...its literally one of the primary jobs as an officer in the club to do so.
we do this same, tired conversation with new officers pretty much every year. don't take it too personally, but just know things really need improvement. we're trying to help you.

Late to the party,
I know the forum is important to the club and I try to post threads for big events but I see that's not enough, so what would you like to see from us?
(I know the car show thread is a mess but bear with me)
We as officers need to find ways to engage new members on the forum and get them using it and we've been aware of this for a while.
We definitely dropped the ball on some things but we can't be solely defined by that, we more than doubled our number of active members from what we started with at the beginning of the year even after org night was a bust.
We haven't forgotten about the forums, but we sure as hell could try harder to get people on board.
