Project? Nah... Prolly Not: Mk7 GTI
I gotta say, this really is a lot deliberation over more fun. Who argues with more fun after the age of like 25. Life is already soul sucking... And not in the good way! Do it!

The wife and I switched cars the last week for reasons not worth typing. She's on kid duty during the week, so she's been hauling him around to various places in the GTI. I commented the other day about liking the GTI but really liking driving the BMW too. She replied that she likes the BMW, but didn't find herself looking forward to getting it back. I think that's a good indicator of it's value as a small family car. That and it'll fit a full size stroller and supplies for a picnic. Smile

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth

I'm looking into TCU/DSG upgrades. I spent the first six months in regular mode, which I was completely okay with. Then I tried Sport for about a month because i wanted to see the difference. There Is definitely a noticeable change in performance between the two, but I didn't realize it stayed in Sport until you disabled it. I've found myself surprised at times that it's in Sport. I think living in an actual city and never driving more a few miles, I never get a chance to really use the car. Reading about the upgrade, I think it might help city living feel less like driving from stop light to stop light.

Edit: I'm getting warnings of the first oil change, which I think is supposed to be at 10k miles. There are 1,800 miles in the car... that's how little I drive.

I tried to win my commute this morning against a FoST. We were both at a light that usually has traffic up ahead, but there was oddly none today - in the middle of rush hour. We were both kinda tentative at first, and I never went past 3/4 throttle, but the cars seemed pretty evenly matched. Best I can tell, his extra 40 hp was somewhat negated by having to actually shift. #coolstorybro

Two grand. It's honestly the perfect city car, if you want a five door. I sat in a bunch of cars at the auto show today and nothing felt as good as this car does. There are always some convenience things that would be nice, but I don't regret buying the S.

Gas mileage might have improved slightly, but it's still pretty low, even for city driving. My driving habits means I only fill up once a month anyway.

The seat bolster complaint I had is no longer an issue. There is some minor bunching on the steering wheel cover, but it's not a major issue. I may ask them to look at it, if I ever get to an oil change Interval.  Big Grin

Well that was cool while it lasted. I have no idea where this cane from, but I suspect it might have been the valet parking at work. Unfortunately, I don't have any real proof cause I don't know when it actually happened. There's no way fixjng this is cheap if I want out done right.  Dodgy

Most of that looks like it will buff out, and in the one place it’s through the paint....

No way that is worth repainting the bumper over.

The wind messed up me and Zach's GTIs as well, touch up paint and a buff is the solution.

For a good body to prep respray it's going to be something like $500 minimum, maybe $750. It depends on how much it bothers you but yeah a good buff and some touch up paint sounds like it would be a good place to start
Edit: and bummer man I'm sorry! That is the worst feeling. We don't know the offender but I avoid valet unless I'm driving a rental car. They park cars way to close together in some venues

Yeah, I"m gonna give it a buff and see how it looks. There are two places where the paint is gone, but it's plastic so I'm not too worried about it weathering. Where are you guys buying your touch up? I'd rather not have to go somewhere to get it.

The garage at work is open to monthly and daily parkers. They don't really cap it, so anyone who arrives after like 10 am has to hand their car over to the valet on the bottom level. I'm a monthly parker so I kinda don't have a choice if I get to work late (like I did Thursday due to my allergy test).

Either the dealer or an OEM parts supplier online is probably your best bet.  Those are my go to

I have always got it from the dealer, but even the Advance Auto duplicolor stuff is fine if they have a match for your car’s paint code. Red is really forgiving.

Hey, have you looked on Amazon? I hear they are amazing and have a fairly valued stock.

(I think this is the right stuff; verify the paint code)
