Story:
I found this car for sale on E46Fanatics and contacted the owner. Drove down to Cary NC to pick it up 2 days after finding it. The owner is an avid SE46 racer and knows what he is doing with these cars. The entire cooling system had been replaced, Inner and outer intake bellows, clutch and flywheel, alternator, tie rods, valve cover gasket, all of these had less than 2k miles on them so it was a sweet deal for me. Drove the 300 ish miles home on Conti race slicks and swapped them out for some Michelin AS3+ 235/45R17. Went down to JMU for my first ever Autocross a week later and won the novice group. I can't wait for the opportunity to take this thing out onto VIR or Summit.
That's funny because e30s have them (and they leak). Look for likes coming from around the oil filter housing. I don't remember mine having a cooler, but I never looked. As far as I know, the Vanos is a wear item and needs to be rebuilt at high mileage. Jake's crapped the bed on his E36 and these dual vanos motors are prone to it.

I'm unaware of any oil cooler.
Yeah not planning on a spec class car, just getting into gts would be fine by me.
I'm mostly worried with suspension and brakes rn. New rotors and pads will fix the brakes from fade, but the car loses grip over bumpy road so a new damper or coilover setup is something to save for.

Yeah, at least with S50s and S52s, autocrossing will cause some gnarly sounding lifter tick, I wouldn't think much of it unless it doesn't go away after 15-20 minutes of gentle highway cruising.
Now: 07 Porsche Cayman S | 18 VW Tiguan
Then: 18 VW GTI Autobahn | 95 BMW M3 | 15 VW GTI SE | 12 Kia Optima SX | 2009 VW GTI | 00 BMW 540i Sport | 90 Mazda Miata | 94 Yamaha FZR600R | 1993 Suzuki GS500E | 2003 BMW 325i | 95 Saab 900S

Got lunch with Brandon, so it cooled for 30 min and was fine.
