I don't disagree with you. The e90 setup seems bulky and archaic, but I have to believe the talented folks at BMW could make the unit in the F31 looks a bit more "finished".

I wouldnt mind the F31 nav if it hid in the dash when not in use. Then I'd just code it off 100% of the time.

Also, where the fuck are the tape decks?

It's used for media content (radio, internal hard drive, phone, etc.), so it's never really not in use.

Wow RJ, the interior upgrades really transform the car. Nicely done! Excited to see it on the different wheels, I've always thought the style you chose was one of their stronger OEM options in recent years.

How do people (the PO) drive around that long with no tint on the windows? Savages.

In for tinting the car. I couldn’t stand walking up to my car after work every day and seeing right through it. After asking some on the F30 forums, I found a guy in Maryland who does really nice work for half the price of the big shops. His work is still warrantied for life from the tint company, and he has a full line of films. I went with the full ceramic to keep the most UV out and protect leather long term. I did 20% all around and 40% on the windshield, might be a little much for what you want but I love the look contrasting on the white paint, and privacy is on point if all the windows are up. Let me know if you want pictures or the guys contact info.

I'm pretty sure I remember reading about certain types of tint blocking the signal for the keyless entry system BMW uses back when I had my 135i. It might not be an issue anymore, but if you have that it might be worth it to look into what type of tint that was. I can't remember what people were having a problem with.

I'm not much for tons of tint, but the RR came with it on the front windows. Really completes the "slingin' coke" look in the sketchy parts of Alexandria, more than the chrome wheels on the Denali ever did.

The BMW has a different style of roof rails, so the roof rack setup I'd had on my A4 wont work anymore - I got the hitch mounted the day I got the car home and re-used my single bike rack on the hitch, but still would like to carry 2 bicycles.  I can always do the roof rails later if I need to expand to more.  The rack manufacturer sells extra trays that you just bolt on to the existing rack, and that was way cheaper than a new roof rail setup.... seems simple, no?  Of course not, especially since the new tray arrived Friday and I wanted to use it Saturday.

The existing bolts that you remove to mount the new tray are stainless in aluminum.  You can guess what happens after spending 4 years outside.

The bolts are theft-resistant in that they have a little pin in the center that stops you from using a standard hex bit to remove it.  I first tried to remove them with the tool that comes with the rack, which snapped off, it was soft steel.

Then I tried to double nut the fastener from underneath, nope, fuck you buddy.  I drilled out the center pin so I could just get a hex bit in there but its a standard size (3/8") not metric so a run to home depot for one of those plus 3' of leverage gets it free.

And, we're done.

How do you not have a set of SAE hex? Even I have those and I don't do shit.

I've never seen an SAE hex. Only metric.

that sucks. Future proof yourself. I don't think I've ever used them, but for $10 they sit in the toolbox
