So basically my truck has some rot behind the tailgate and on the bottom of the drivers side doors. Plus the frame is in desperate need of some tlc.
Wondering if anyone has any tips or products they've used. Looking for like rust convertors or inhibitors maybe. I think Kaan had good success with chassis saver on his trailer so I may try that for the frame but should I put a rust convertor on it too or just drive the truck down to South Carolina this weekend and park it next to a beach and hope Irma takes care of it?

what, like proper facked?
I still have no idea what he's saying in 90% of that movie
Kbs coatings sells a kit that works good on flat metal where you can get rid of the existing rust first. It only nominally slowed the rust oon my door seams

Por-15.
You literally paint right over the rust, little to no prep. It works by sealing the metal/rust from moisture or oxygen so you have to completely encase said rusted part with the paint for it to be effective. It's not cheap, but it is very good.
Used motor oil.
Why do people just post what they are thinking? Without thinking.

Hmm I haven't done any research on it but a thread I read from a Google search of por 15 vs chassis saver, that brought me to a Ford truck forum, had someone saying mid 90's to (said current but I think it was an old thread) F-150's use a wax coating on the frame with no paint or coating on the metal (besides the wax of course). I have known a few F-150's of my generation to have serious frame rot. (fingers crossed, I don't think I'm quite there yet).
This is very interesting if true and I wonder if it would make coating it , with por 15 or chassis saver more difficult. I would think you'd have to make sure all wax is completely off first which would be a chore in itself but then you'd have be super sure you got every square inch of that frame coated since you've stripped off the protective wax.
On an unrelated note, anyone want to road trip to Florida? I'll drive...

You worry too much. Relax, it's only rust.
I think my driveshaft is going to snap in half at any moment lol. It looks so ugly.
Surface rust is one thing (what the frame is) but there's definitely some pitting going on on some things which makes me uneasy. And paint is bubbling along the inside door skin seam which I don't like either.
The bed rot that is already completely through the metal was caused by two brackets under the bed that I guess held water against it so although I think it shouldn't happen anymore (cause now there's big holes that should let the water drain lol, I'd like to stop it from spreading

Yeah, saving a frame on a pickup is not easy or fun. I think manufacturers discovered that the wax coating did more harm than good by trapping water against the frame, and now they don't seem to do it anymore. My Tacoma was pretty far down that road. If you're really considered, you'll have to strip it all.
