Project: B7 A4 Avant
And to be clear, the "APR Plus" program or whatever requires that the tune be done at the time of purchase, if you buy the car and then try to take it back 100mi later to have the tune done, no dice. At least as far as I understand it.

The benefit of APR Plus is you get the full warranty in writing but the tune isn't as aggressive, 260hp/300ft-lbs. If you're comfortable with the nudge & wink "suuuuuure we'll take care of you" answer you usually get from dealers regarding warranty and the full APR tune, you get 316hp/381ft-lbs.

The APR plus thing looks interesting but no dealerships anywhere near here that do it. I cant be bothered.... local dealer has good prices, and driving all the way the fuck to Lorton for the APR shop is bad enough.

Part of the deal with the sale of the A4 was that I'd install the rear brakes that I have sitting here in a box, plus have it detailed. I head over to use jayray's garage tonight and this fucking car gives me one last kick in the nuts. Wheels off, rotate them, rear brakes (pads and rotors) go on with no fuss, I didnt even have to drill out the rotor screws, I was smart and brought a impact driver. Put the wheels back on, get the fronts torqued up, and the rears... dont torque on 4 out of the 10 bolts. The bolt tightens and then spins. All the fucks. I dont even know how this happens.

I'm planning on going out of town this weekend, and the car leaves with the shipping company next week so in the interest of time and not leaving a stranded car in jayray's garage i had it towed to a local indy shop I use sometimes. The same shop is the only one thats had the wheels off in the past 2 years for new tires or rotating them at oil changes, but I dont know if this is anything they did but we'll have a talk about it. I dont know if the fix is chasing the hub with a tap, a timesert, or a new hub. I guess I'll find out in the morning. Either way it has to be 100% right to go to a new owner and I guess I cant blow the $200 gift card I have in my wallet on hookers.

Not with that attitude.

I hope you realize that when you start adding parts, I'll have to start adding parts.

Stage 1 tune -

Vs. state 2 tune, with downpipe

[Image: 18_tsi_ea888_gen3_mqb_awd_s0_vs_s2_93_cc.png]

I'm not convinced the downpipe is worth the extra $900. It fills out the powerband on either end, which is pretty similar to the high flow cat I put on my A4.

I'll have to see if I can negotiate a hitch + install as part of the buy. We'll see.

AWE exhaust looks nice though...

i always hated the lug bolt nonsense on my A4. count on the Germans to find any possible way to overcomplicate anything that isn't beer.

In 20 years of hamfisted mechanicing I have never stripped a lug nut or bolt. Shop has the car, I'll blog more about this later today I'm sure.

Me too, I've been eyeballing the Burger JB1 piggyback tune thingy. Don't drag us all down the slippery slope!

This is why Germany lost WWII.

All of their tanks and jeeps stripped out their lug bolts, all of their oil leaked out, their windows fell into the doors and their electrical systems fried themselves.

The ONLY upside out of all the german garbage I've owned is that most times you can change brake rotors without removing the carriers. I should have converted to studs & nuts the day I bought it but NOOOOOO I'm dumb why would you do that?

I mean, the Panzer IV's drivetrain sucked pretty bad. By the time they added enough armor to make it a Good Tank, they couldn't be driven at top speed or else the final drive of the transmission would eat itself, and couldn't move the turret when the tank was moving or else the suspension would flip it over.

I mean, Germany lost WW2 because Hitler was a terrible strategist. Fails to take dunkirk because he's worried about losing tanks, sends troops into Russia without any consideration for winter at all, then lets Japan bring the US full bore into the whole thing.

But the not-great-tanks making a majority of your armor didn't help either. Now the Tiger on the other hand, ooooooh Herr Doktor Porsche, mein Schwanzstucker ist enflammen.

Well, curry's can go fuck themselves. They've done some good work for me in the past but they've jumped the shark.

They want $1200 to replace the rear hubs and bearings and their service writer couldnt talk to me without being a condescending ass and kept using different terms for the same thing in an effort to confuse the shit out of me. Mostly they dont want this job or to take the car apart.

"well sir, we dont want to be held liable if we break the bolt for the steering knuckle control arm and ya probably fucked up yar brakes already by putting those things on there". I asked if they can use a hub shark if they're concerned about the control arm bolts or changing the alignment and he had no idea what i was talking about.

Nevermind its the rear, there's no steering. The pads are OE and zimmerman rotors. So GFY.

He couldnt discuss the option of a timesert into the hub either. "We arent going to drill out your wheel why would you do that"

Its getting towed over to another shop today and they'll knock it out for $600. New hubs and bearings. This isnt the worst thing thats ever happened but I better get some beer on the way home.

They did, and that location closed. The store in vienna has been mostly good, although the last time I was in for an oil change they told me I had to replace "the whole valve cover" for a gasket leak but could not articulate the whole reason why or show me a TSB. I suspect they were talking about a PCV/Breather update, which, is a thing, and was already done.
