3 rows and you can still fit a load of 4x8 plywood.

Yeah but the thing with the full size SUVs that have a third row is that usually the cargo space disappears to next to nothing. That's no bueno when you're shuttling that many kids to softball practice or wherever...I guess that's the allure of the "plus size" SUVs like Tahoe/Sub

I have a roof box for longer trips if we were to have a 3rd row passenger.

3 row is key. We used our 3 row with family even before the kid. I can't imagine not having 3 row with kids.

I've never considered people who don't live in my house during vehicle purchases. I guess that's one benefit of not living near anyone you're related to. The downside is childcare always costs money.

Lee, that thing looks dope. love that color combo and man Mazder has been on a crazy roll with their styling lately, i love it. those skyactivs are perfect for daily duty too with the power/mpg combo. nicely done!

if you have 1 kid you're fine. more, i can definitely see it. the cruel reality is that minivans are perfect for multiple kids.

this is the correct answer to like 90% of "but we have to drive an aircraft carrier to fit our 2 children" space needs. obviously some exceptions

We comfortably fit three adults, one infant, a stroller, and enough checked luggage for a week into the wagon on recent trip to the airport. This is without putting any bags in the back seat or on anyone's lap and without adjusting seats. I'm convinced this is why you guys need garage ceiling racks - too much stuff. </hate>

I will admit that I rented a minivan on the other side of the trip, mostly because I didn't want to rent something and then not have our shit fit. It turned out the minivan was waaaay too big, but they're far cheaper than SUVs because people somehow think SUVs suck less. The rental agent repeatedly tried to up-sell me to a mid-size, then large SUV. No thanks.

we used to be in your position....yours is still tiny. just wait until they get bigger, the toys grow too. and of course if you want a second one, you're going to save all that stuff from the first one...

Scored some nicer Philips LEDs for the license plate lights on Amazon and got a date set up with my guy to do some extra tinting / possible protective film work. I noticed that just like my truck the headlights run in conjunction with the "signature LED" lamps when DRLs are active. And just like my truck, the Mazda community seems to gripe about this a lot, some even going out of their way to buy aftermarket harnesses to try to turn the headlights off and keep the signature LEDs running. It's more of an issue with my truck in my case because I don't want to burn out my expensive aftermarket HID bulbs with the headlights running 24/7 but with the CX-5s headlights being LED it's really not a big deal for me.

I think what is happening is manufacturers are realizing that LED accent lighting just isn't bright enough to qualify as good daytime running lighting, so they're wiring the low beams to come on as well. From what I was reading, the CX-5s light up for the DRLs but not as bright as they do when the auto headlight function senses it's night time and then turns them on to a brighter setting. I have to say these headlights are epic though, they are one of my favorite features about the car by far. It's nice to know that I will never have to touch / modify them.

Manual calls for 0w20 ... haven't had to use anything for a while other than 5w30. Is a 20 weight fine? Iirc it is thinner and protects the engine less? Could I use a different weight?

0w20 is fine for NC climate. Use what the manufacturer recommends. Thicker you can damage auxillary parts which can then hurt engine and also lose fuel economy

Most of what the manual was describing was that it was for fuel efficiency requirements in the US and Canada, there was a second page that said that you should run I believe 5w20 anywhere outside of the US. Either way it's fine, it looks like there is a Pennzoil Platinum (my preferred choice) available in 0w20 at Wal-Mart

Yeah, doing like 5W won't do much but doing like 10W-20W will do some bad things as the car gets some mileage in cold weather. I'm pretty sure anyone can tell you that.

Most new gas SUV and cars run simple 5 or 0 weight and you can run 5 if you want but why? I'm guessing manufacturers are going for fuel economy and aren't seeing as much wear difference or something in hot temps. Who knows though unless you work for them

So over my morning coffee researched I learned that the Mazda-branded 0w20 is actually one of the best oils for Skyactiv motors as it has some of the highest moly counts of any oil available. Its not cheap to order it online and I would put money on the dealership NOT using it during our free oil changes, so I'm going to hit up the parts department on Tuesday to see what they charge for it locally. Some folks said they have found it for around $6 and some change per quart, which is fine if I can get it for that...but worst case scenario walmart sells 5 quart jugs of Pennzoil Platinum for like $25.

I bought an apple watch today. Not sure why other than because it was on sale. It's pretty nifty to have notifications on my wrist and the voice to text is surprisingly good. [Image: 264f097cd14d70d0943d7087694299b1.jpg]
