What a great first weekend with the car! Definitely some things that needed some love, but with a little time and help from others it's as good as new! Well as good as a 33 year old car can be
First thing was the trim, it was all faded out and we needed something to wrench on. So we took off the grilles, wipers, mirrors, and air vents to paint black(by paint I mean use one liberally thick coat of off brand plasti dip). It made a big improvement and I don't care that we didn't cost them correctly as the paint on the car is far worse anyways.
Today we actually got to wrenching, but first I decided it was time to get my own tools down here. So I went by harbor freight and advanced to pick up a few necessities on the cheap.
Then we parked in north and got to wrenching. First came the oil change with some nice 10w-40 and a new filter which took me all day of calling around to find. As I did this, Jackson worked on the valve adjustment to hopefully get rid of the horrifying ticking noise. We found the issue pretty quickly, and it wasn't too great. Turns out the lobe was worn completely flat somehow...
Once the valves were adjusted it sounded a little better but now we know there's another culprit. As this was being done, Ryan, Connor, and James joined in on the fun. I kindly recruited them to clean the leather with wipes as to remove all foreign juices that were left in these plush seats for the past 30 years. This turned out pretty nicely I must say, and after Jackson and I hit it later that night with a vacuum and more wipes, it looks good as new.
Oh I almost forgot, the other part we replaced was the clutch master cylinder. When I picked up the car, I had driven it all the way back with no fluid in the clutch resorvoir. We filled it up when it was noticed, but the next day it had leaked out and we knew there was a problem. To my pleasant surprise, the seller had been kind enough to leave us the brand new part in the trunk, ready to be installed! Well we got it in, filled her up, and went on a test drive! While it won't burn rubber yet, we are from over with it!
After a quick visit to miracle wash, it was time to hoon for the rest of the afternoon. And of course, time to play some picture tag! More updates to come as my bank account quivers with fear in the corner of the parts store :')
