Hey guys. I'm Chris Ryder. I’m currently a senior here at JMU but I will be here for a 5th year and I am running for secretary.
Just a little bit about me: My interest for cars really took off in high school when I took two years of auto where my class would perform actual work on vehicles. I started working on my own car as well as others and it provided me with a vast amount of learning opportunities, and now, I am a member of MM, and the opportunities continue to grow.
I've been a member of MM since Fall of 2014. I've loved every minute of being a member of this club and I would like to be more than just a member next year. I will be one of the oldest active members of MM next year and I believe that I have some advice, guidance, and experience that can help maintain this awesome club.
From last year to this year, I have already seen some improvements to MM. The signup sheet for helping with the car show and letting members choose what shifts they want will make the car show more enjoyable this year. The means of communication between members keeps getting better. Sometimes I would miss when a meeting date/time would be because I may not have been on Facebook when it was posted, but now, I can look and it's right there on my phone. This is essential for getting new members to join and retaining old members.
I would like to see more casual meetings rather than just classroom meets and cruises. Cruises are nice, but I enjoy the Kline’s/cruise combo where the new members get to interact with current ones and possibly some alumni. It combines the cruise/casual meetings into one. I am not implying we have to get ice cream at Kline’s every time we cruise, but it would be nice to cruise and then have a chance to talk with people. Another thing I would like to see is more Friday nights spent at Eastside Speedway in Waynesboro. It’s only $10 to watch and $20 for unlimited runs. We haven’t gotten a chance to do that this year and it’s something I would like to get going again.
I will be available to attend a good majority of MM events during the year. Unfortunately, this year my attendance at events has been down due to my mom having health problems which has kept me busy most weekends, which also leads to me being busier during the week. She has made almost a full recovery so I don’t see it being a problem for next year. Since MM is the only club I am a part of, I will give all the effort that I’m capable of in order to help this club continue to succeed.
I look forward to the opportunity to make Madison Motorsports better and helping it grow.
