A shitty home-brew CAI I used to have on the M3, so I'm probably responsible for this in some way.

It's got a cone filter on it, but it sits up high enough in the engine bay that I wouldn't think it's a huge concern.
Zack just IM'd me:

zero compression - man, i wonder what happened...shattered rings or did it lift/break the HG? pretty gnarly. sorry to see it go, you really brought it a long way. but i'm not gonna lie, kinda excited to see what you next project is.

Fuck dude, that blows but huzzah for insurance covering it. Sorta crazy that all 6 cylinders are gone. Looking forward to more info, if you're putting the time/effort into seeing what actually went asploded.
If you need anything in Richmond, hollaholla. Also I approve of the e46 idea, git you an M3.

If he buys it back to part out I'll go over there and crack the thing open just for the hell of it, I'm curious if its the rods or valves that look like question marks. Or both.

I feel like the multiple push starts after it was hydro-locked might have done it.
Hopefully insurance either writes you a check for more than you expect or you can buy it back real cheap
That's kind of shocking, have a pic of the cone filter location?
Sorry man! :|

On what evidence?
Sorry to hear dude, hopefully insurance pays out well and you can just walk away. I feel like parting out a 328iC convertible with a blown up motor is just going to be more pain than it is worth. Talk to me if you get a quote to buy it back and we can run some estimates for you to part it out but it doesn't look good.
Wheels? -$300-500
Trailing arms/suspension/brakes/etc - worthless
Interior - $200?
Transmission - $300
Body panels - $200-400
Junk chassis - $200
Yeah...fuck doing a lot of work for that little unless the buy back is like $100.

The wheels are all bent a little, they balance out but aren't worth more than a few hundo to the right person.
I'm pretty set against parting it out, I don't have the time or energy right now.

Geico called yesterday and I get my insurance check tomorrow.
They valued the car at $4,400, and I get that minus my deductible. Definitely not parting her out as that's much better money than I could get any other conceivable way.
So, I guess this is it. Zack and Glenn at Delta V have a box filled with everything that was left in the car when the tow truck took it from me. The car is already on the way to an auction site in Ashland, VA where it will undoubtedly be purchased by a junkyard to be parted out and scrapped.
Not sure what I want to replace her with. Nothing in the short term, as I'm moving on Saturday and will be walkable to the Metro, which means I don't need a "commuter" car per se. Got a lot of thinking and saving and test driving to do in the meantime.
So long, Blau, it was a good (if too short) run.

So is your insurance going to shit on you, since you essentially totaled the car doing something kind of dumb? I didn't even know hydrolocking counted as totaling a car until I read this.

Given the weather in the area that Friday/Saturday (tropical storm/hurricane) and the fact that there is literally the one road out of the Outer Banks, this is covered under my comprehensive coverage, as flood damage.
