1992 Miata
#1
1992 Miata, 130k. It was repainted 6 months ago and then it went through a fence. Bumper, fenders and windshield frame dented (not bent, the hardtop still fit fine). No rust. The car has been garaged the last 8 years and comes with a clean title. It runs and drives great and would be an easy fix (or perfect Miata kart) he just doesn't want to look at it anymore. No top. Wheels pictured not included, it will come on a set of bronze daisy wheels. Located in Waynesboro, VA. Delivery possibly available.

That or a Chump car, or "Miata kart" (the current thing...). It's an easy fix and would take an afternoon, but it just needs to go. Some personal issues involving the car make him sick to even look at, that's why I'm selling it for him. He's already bought the replacement and we've got it almost track ready. . I went over the insurance estimate and it makes no mention of suspension damage, only paint/body work. Clean and clear title.

Where was the car painted 6 months ago? If I were to theoretically pick this up with the intention of flipping it, could I go to Maaco for matching quality or would it be more like a D&V situation?

It was painted here: http://www.whitesellcollisionandauto.com/

Depends on your Maaco. The replacement car for this one was repainted by a Maaco somewhere in NOVA and looks amazing.

For flipping it, I am sure the Carfax would show an accident. We never bothered to run a Carfax. When the car was purchased (8 years ago) it had a replacement fender on it and the body was a couple shades of blue, but the car was straight and it didn't matter since it was going to be an autocross/track car (which in reality became a garage queen).

Hmm thanks for the info. I guess I should do some market comp research and see what 1.6L NAs with similar stories are going for and see if it's really worth the legwork.

Just trying to be completely upfront about the car.

It could go for $4000+ IF put back correctly. The older Miata's get, as long as it's rust free and straight, damage history doesn't really seem to change much (unless it's salvage or a flood car)

I have no idea if this most current accident shows up on a report or not. It went through insurance and was totalled for paint/body work (estimate did not show any frame or suspension damage), but they never took possesion of the car or the title.

I can't imagine that many NAs don't have Carfax histories these days so I don't think that'd be a major concern. I just re-read the post and realized it has no top, that would be kind of a pain to source and install...

How are the tires it will come with? Brakes? Any fluid leaks? Where is the dent in the windshield cowl?

Sorry for the interrogation, I'm trying to do some napkin math to decide if I want to approach the Venture Capitalist Firm of Dad to fund this endeavor if I promise him a reasonable ROI.

Really easy actually, just make sure you buy a used one already installed on a frame, at that point it's straight bolt in and takes 30 minutes... Most Spec Miata builders sell them fairly cheaply as well as others parting out Miata's

Tires are old, but have decent tread and aren't dryrotted. They've been stored in my climate controlled basement (right beside my race tires).

Brakes are Hawk HP (either S or +, I can't remember what we installed) and are usable

I think it leaks a little from the rear main seal and the CAS (i'll have to double check), but not enough that it's needing any oil added. We where waiting until the clutch needed to be done (it's still fine) before dealing with the rear main.

Not a problem, I'm happy to answer any questions you have.
