wheel bearings can sound alot like a plane, like in that video. best way to confirm is jack the car, hold the wheel 12 and 6 o'clock and try to rock it towards and away from you at each hand. if it wobbles a bit the bearing is shot.

Wheel bearings were fine last time I checked. There was a clunking on the floor board. Points to driveline issues. Same as before. It's being towed to a shop now. Will update.

I thought the problem was your parking brake and not your driveline?

I'm so confused.

No no. The parking brake fixed itself, but the flux capacitor broke. Then he changed out the cup holder bracket which led to the driveline problems. Not sure what your confused about. It's really not that wild of a story :dunno:

It's a BMW, all he needs to do is refill the blinker fluid and all will be fixed.

I'm with Jake, I don't even recognize that word. Are you sure you're not making up this "blinker" thing?

Car is at the shop now. You'd never believe how afraid of working on BMWs these rural shops are. Luckily one down the road has a guy that used to own an E46 and I talked to the owner about racing and stuff for a while. If it's just a bolt or something loose, it'll be included in the diagnoses fee. If not, he'll overnight the parts, unless it's a drive shaft replacement. In that case, I'm towing it back here and catching a ride back to Harrisonburg with my roommate. I might end up selling this car to just avoid a loss, haha.

I bet the new csb failed either because part or user error on install. Same thing happened to mine. Probably from error on my part while installing it. I was too lazy to pull everything out and check and just thought it couldn't be the new part so ordered a drive shaft with csb installed already. Turned out the cab was ripped all the way through when I got under there

I agree with you, Sully. I had doubts on whether or not I have installed it all of the way on. I was my usual careless self and just wanted it back on. It's a shame because it was a genuine BMW part too down the drain. I did at least try to preload it. I also fear that I might have got the driveshaft off by one spline which would explain the vibration I felt above 70 MPH and would have killed the CSB. The vibration wasn't really enough to worry me, though. They'll give me a call today when they look at it. Somehow the guy liked me enough to move me in front of like 5 cars to look at it.

Good news: It was just the parking brake that finally 100% exploded after being barely held together. How that makes the noises I heard makes no sense to me. He says a heat shield was dragging on the driveshaft so that explains some noise.

Bad news: $270 to rebuild both sides WITHOUT new shoes since he is overnight-ing the parts for me. I know it's ridiculous, but at this point that's better than having them put it back together and trying to do it myself when I have no time off before friday.

That all kind of sounds too good to be true considering what I heard while driving it.

I would like to point out that at this point, if you had simply taken me up on my drunk offer to buy the car off you, you would be ahead monetarily compared with what you are currently asking for it - the repairs you have performed. Just saying.

I don't understand how a parking brake shoe would cause clunking on the floor board. The parking brake is nowhere near the driveshaft (and heat shields, which I'm assuming are for the exhaust). Unless the mechanic means "rear axles" instead of "driveshaft". And why does he have to overnight parts?

I need to overnight them because I can't wait until monday. I have to sell the car Friday hopefully in Harrisonburg and work the next 3 days. I really am worried that the brake issue isn't the problem because I agree that doesn't make sense. Supposedly he pulled the driveshaft and looked at it

No, I know you're trying to sell the car, but I don't think something like parking brake shoes, or even a parking brake drum rebuild kit is something that needs to be "overnighted". Whatever supplier his shop uses (NAPA, Fisher, even Advance Auto?) could probably get him the parts the same day, if not the next day for free as is standard practice with something that common. But then again, who knows what he's replacing since his diagnosis is "the parking brake exploded". Has he told you exactly what he's fixing/replacing?

Nah we don't stock shit for any car unless it's a domestic or jdm. It's probably even worse out where Taylor lives. We don't even have the shoes for his car in my store.
