GM order accepted on 2/4!

Should have a build date and VIN in a few weeks. My brother hooked me up with a Friends and Family BoA connection so I was able to snag GM supplier pricing plus whatever incentives they have on delivery day. Made the negotiating process a lot easier :thumbup:

Anyway super stoked!! I keep telling myself I won't buy another black car, and then I buy 2 more black cars. It's the best looking color on the Canyon imo. Also had to sacrifice some amenities from a bigger truck like the Sierra, but I don't need a big truck (the Sierra has also been having drivetrain issues) and this thing if I measured right still fits perfectly in my garage. Delivery schedule right now is about 8-10 weeks so I might get it right before my birthday :thumbup:

This thread will probably be less of a project thread and more of a chronicle of owning another GM car (which I said I never would after my Cadillac). But everything I hear and everything I've read about GMC trucks is that they are the ones you want long term. Hopefully "they" are right :lol:

Exciting! You've got it spec'd about how I would (although I wouldn't do black paint...) - the locking diff will be super helpful if you get in a low-traction situation, and the skid plates are good for peace of mind if nothing else.

sweet! these are the best looking trucks to come along in a long time in my eyes and they really seem to slot into the "everyday usable" category perfectly. every review i've seen has been pretty glowing. i think GM knows this is a hugely important model for them in this segment.

gotta laugh at the paint color comment, mostly because i'm commiserating with you, being a black SUV owner. its a sickness.

this is the V6 right? should do great for you. take some shots of you getting the wheels filthy on those NC dirt roads soon.... :thumbup:

I will definitely post up some dirty ole truck pics once I put it through the paces Yes it is the 3.6L V6 LFX (same engine that was in my old CTS), they don't make a Canyon with a V8 unfortunately. The engine options are a 200hp/191tq 2.5L I4, a 181hp/369 tq 2.8L I4 Duramax diesel and the 305hp/269tq 3.6L V6. I don't need the diesel (it has a slightly higher max tow capacity of 7600 vs. 7000 in the 3.6L) so I couldn't justify the higher initial cost / ownership / worry about exhaust fluid injector junk and other emissions nonsense they put into those engines nowadays.

Trifecta and a few others already have tunes that bring the LFX up to about 330hp (same tune I had on my Caddy). That's plenty for me for this vehicle. 4WD model claims about 19 city / 24mpg on the highway, both of which are better than my old car so I'm great with that!

Re: new vs. old - To be able to turn that kind of gas mileage too and make that power now is pretty crazy. This truck will be basically on par with my old CTS sedan in terms of fuel efficiency. I will have to see if they have changed anything about the motor in the last 8 years.

Unless they have improved the DI system, I will probably pick up a catch can like I had on my old car. Since I will own it since 0 miles, I should be able to keep the intake tract pretty clean if I get that hooked up early on in its life.

Yeah, but 15 years ago you had to rev the motor to 8k to get that power, which was all at the top end.

Its a shame that new cars are so porky.

Yeah I'll have a catch can ready to install when this truck arrives. Doesn't look like much has changed! Also, I missed it during the build process but it seems they don't have Homelink / integrated garage door openers on the "twins". Interesting feature to omit from the build options, considering this car has a wifi hotspot built in I guess I will have to dig up the remote for our garage door. Not a deal breaker but I laughed when I read people lamenting about it on the Canyon forums

Just looking this up, this thing is heavier and larger in every way than a mid '90's 1500 and is longer overall + longer wheelbase than even the current 1500. I'd say it's still a pretty big truck.

Exactly, that was one of the justifications for me to feel good about the size. It's basically the same size as the older Silverados especially in crew cab form, so it's definitely not "small". The Sierra comparatively is pretty big...at least 6 inches wider and iirc like a foot and a half longer in similar configuration.

Time will tell if I "grow out" of it, but the resale value seems pretty strong on these so if I ever need to trade up I imagine it wouldn't sit on the market for as long as my Jag did :lol:

Been immersing myself in the Canyon / Colorado forums to get myself up to speed on the twins and there is a separate thread about how long people have been waiting on their factory builds. I was told 8-10 weeks until delivery but it seems people who are specing out 4x4s with the auto locking diff have been waiting a lot longer than that for just their build dates. Apparently there is a supply / supplier issue with the differentials (G80) that has brought production to almost a stand still. I have been reading about people who placed orders last September who are still waiting on build dates. Others have accepted delivery after about 17 weeks. 4 months+ is a little long for me to wait if that is the case, that would put me into the 2017 model year. Going to call the dealer today and see if they can keep me in the loop on any similar builds that come in or if they have any other recommendations.

Nice! - I really like the redesign. I like the segment (although this vs the previous gen is definitely less "small truck") since I don't need any real towing capacity either and I'm not a contractor.

So I decided not to wait:

I felt a little bit bad when I had to call the sales team at the dealership I ordered the first truck from and let them know I went a different direction. They were good guys but they could not get me an update on the build date and my concerns with how long people were apparently waiting for these. We swung by another dealership that had the literal exact build I had ordered plus about $1,000 in extras that I had debated adding on after I took delivery. They made me an offer I couldn't refuse, plus included a lifetime "lubricated parts" :lol: powertrain warranty on top of the factory warranty. I was even able to negotiate an interest rate lower than the best available market rates, which I didn't know you could do, but apparently if banks really want your business they will undercut their lowest rates.

So I got my exact configuration / color / build plus remote start, the black oem step rails, All Terrain floor mats and Gear On cross rails for $300 less than what my build would have been. Nice :thumbup:

The trade off is that the paint is OK. It's in better shape than I have seen other new black cars because it had only been washed once, but there are some swirls, a few clear coat scratches and a weird circular "burn" that you can kind of see in one of the pics. I didn't want their "guy" touching it because I will be having Dan work his magic on it here in the near future! :mrgreen: That was one of my big reasons for ordering new, but honestly I don't know that I would have been 100% happy with even a new truck getting the plastic peeled off of it...stuff always happens in transit and with mechanics sliding around it getting it inspected and ready. It was worth the trade off to not have to wonder if I even have a 2016 car being built when it's almost the 2017 model year.

There is a stupid amount of tech in this thing, Apple/Android car play and stuff that I have to figure out so I will probably spend the weekend getting acquainted with the new beast. But I love it. It doesn't give me the same giggidy feeling of the XFR obviously, but i guess I'm getting old and responsible when I have this great feeling of having a second vehicle that is perfect for the family we are building. Oh and IT FITS IN THE GARAGE LIKE A GLOVE! 8) Pre-measurement for the win.

Only near future stuff will be tint / maybe clear bra and a catch can. Since it's got about 40 miles on it now after I drove it home, getting that on soon should keep the intake mani mostly clean and keep it performing strong for a long time. We will see if I end up regretting not agreeing to the 10 year bumper to bumper that the finance guy kept trying to "make me a deal on" but everyone tells me the new GMCs are fine so we'll see how the next few years go~
