Project Right Wheel Drive - 2005 Crossfire Roadster

Hey guys, it has been awhile since I had an active project thread so I thought what the heck! Yet another place for Mike to make fun of me. I need that in my life. So earlier this spring my wife asked me if we could get a convertible. I was like "sure, what do you want?" long story short I ended up with a 92,000 mile Chrysler Crossfire Roadster. She wanted an automatic trans so that is a bit of a bummer but hey it is what it is. The car seems to have been well cared for and had many new parts. I bought it at an auction and we went to get it in PA.

It had a terrible pin-stripe that had to go!

Cup holder and ash tray were broken, I replaced the useless cupholder with a cubby and repaired the ash tray with my own little trick. Of course I had to swap out the radio, it now has a silver faced Kenwood Marine headunit and a custom OEM amp integration that really makes it bump.

Maintenance items and common failure items I have done:
Oil change, Mobil 0W40 w/ MANN fleece filter not OEM paper
Fuel Filter, MANN
Steering Damper
Crank Sensor, Bosch
Resoldered the contacts in the Relay Control Module
Replaced water damaged Central Vac Module and waterproofed the new one
TPM Sensors
Modified ignition switch to prevent sticking

Need to do list for Maintenance stuff
Tune Up

74mm V8 throttle body
Custom oil catch can
Deleted second pair of cats
OBX-R stainless cat back exhaust
SRT-6 Wheels
Honda front splitter

If you read enough to see that I only have 3 H&R springs for the car thanks for the attention to detail. I purchased them off of another member of the Crossfire Facebook group. The girl shipped the damn things USPS with no insurance in a citrus fruit box wrapped in paper. Surprise surprise the box was a mess when it got here with only three springs. She told me sorry to hear about my bad luck and sent me back $19.50. So I have three springs. Do you guys think I should but another new front from H&R and put it on the left front ($115) of just toss them in the bin and get a new set? Eibachs are $245 and H&R's can be had around $265 I think. I have $138.50 in the three (used) SLK springs I have. The SLK set sits the car a little lower, but I don't care about that so much. Thoughts?

Glad to see this got a project thread, Jeff. I do like my mom's as a pretty comfortable cruiser. She loves it, even with the (awful) Wrangler manual trans. I think the autos drive better, actually. Hers only has ~14k on it.

Was wondering if you could share the model # of the radio you got. It would be a nice birthday surprise for her to get a head unit in there that would support Bluetooth and iPhone integration for Spotify and such.

Mom's had the module that recognizes the chipped key go out, so it wouldn't start but all the electronics worked. That was a pricey repair. I guess some of the solder fails and the module goes dead.

We had new TPM sensors installed when she got a new set of tires, and they've been reprogrammed a few times now. Still can't get the fucking dash light to go off. And yes, I've checked the pressures Tongue Any ideas?

Looks sharp on the SRT wheels! Mom wanted a SRT-6 version but refused when she found out they only came as a two-pedal.

Thanks Jake! Yes she had the RCM fail would be my guess, it's only three drops of solder and it is fixed! You could solder her new one because the new one has the same bad design and it will happen again. You also need to do the sticky key mod on it NOW before it leaves her sit. Mine had a new switch in it when I got it (must have cost the PO a BOATLOAD) so I did the mod to prevent it from locking up. Pain in the ass but worth it in the long run. As for the TPM they loose program when the car sits around a lot because the little batteries in them don't get charged. Have you taken it to a dealer for the reprogram or did the tire shop do it? Finally get a new Bosch CPS from FCPEuro and do that. It is a inverted torque bolt and you can get it from the top. Takes like a minute to do and it is cheap insurance.

Has a color that matches the dash lighting perfectly! You will need a Euro antenna adapter and a VW harness also. The red and yellow wires need to swapped in the harness.

Christmas Update!
I can tell you were all on the edge of your seats.

So the car is resting for the winter. I plan to get some paint work done and I have a new top coming for it in the spring. Before putting it away I got the springs/stocks and control arms on as well as some SRT wheels and spacers. Spacers are 20mm on the rear and 10mm on the front. The whole thing turned out pretty nice. It rides like a wood wagon but it is a little "sporty" car so I guess that is par for the course.

I'm thinking next thing will be to fool with the sway bars a bit, maybe SRT OEM's or maybe H&R SLK bars. "They" say a heavy bar on the back of these cars makes them oversteer really easily so maybe I will leave the back stock.

I just received the tuning cable from Eurocharged for my tune so I might go ahead and get that done. The advertised gain is like 24hp/24tq on a stock car so we will see what my butt dyno thinks. The forums say it really gets noticeable gains from the bigger throttle body, open exhaust and intake (which I still need to do, kits are like $450!). So anyway, Merry Christmas everyone.

Thanks! I like how they look also. There were no white SRT's so it stands out. They aren't very wide and I have contemplated something with a similar style but wider lips from the aftermarket.
