My neighbor at home had one of these. He almost gave it to me for free when he and his wife split up. I should have been more persistent about it. Oh well...

Probably better that way. Definitely no such thing as a free Porsche... worse than a free puppy... way worse than a free beer.

I like the interior color. Too bad I don't like anything else about 986s.

Porno red...... I didn't like the car either until I started driving it around, the balance is amazing. All it needs is about 50 more hp...... Ive actually been looking at the "S" version today having really bad thoughts....

Even the 986 Ss don't drive the way you would expect a Porsche roadster to IMO. They only make about 240hp, and while they are extremely balanced to drive, the interior quality is absolutely awful, the ergonomics of the steering/shifter/clutch always seemed way too soft to me. It's also ugly as sin inside and out. I think the 987 was a 180* turning point and is fantastic in every area the 986 sucks. Maybe in 5-10 years I'll be able to get one for under <10k.

A 987 S is already pretty reasonable money... would be nice.

I usually like red too, but is it just the color being off or is this a very orange red? Looks like lipstick.
ANYWAY, I would drive it

I think it's a little of both, it's not quite full fledged porno-red, it's a little orangey-brown but not quite as much as it looks in the photo.

Believe me I've crunched the numbers six ways to Sunday. They're at an incredibly tempting price point, but once you start factoring in money to replace those enormous brake rotors or 19" tires, and keeping in mind the slight chance that you'll end up pulling the trans in your garage to replace the RMS, they're just not quite cheap enough yet.

However, if a roadster or small coupe will work for me at the point in my life when the purchase price + maintenance + potential repairs of a 987 Boxster/Cayman S isn't nauseating, I'll probably buy one.

I've also been nursing a semi for a Carrera White 997 911 4S with a baby-shit brown interior for oh, I dunno, about 9 years, so maybe that will be the Porsche I buy when I can eventually swing ownership of something like that. Maybe in another 9 years.

My buddy owned one and it was a massive doo doo pile. Constantly broken and needing stuff despite regular maintenance. He traded it in on a 2.0T A5 which to me is meh but it has been a much better car for him. Not to burst your bubble or anything because any car can be a lemon but I would hate to see you get nickled and dimed on something like that.

You realize who you're talking to right? Big Grin

But yea, when I say "when I can swing ownership" I mean "when I can pay cash for the old, out-of-warranty, unreliable Porsche, and have a crap load of cash leftover for shop bills," not "when I can make the monthly payments." Maybe it'll never happen, but if it does, needing a ton of repairs won't stop me.

I dunno what it is about them, there are obviously more exciting cars out there for way less, but oh my god they do it for me. Confusedhock:

I'd take this one (Targa top, reflector trim, wheels) :

With this interior:
