quit buying JDM bling lights, $$ air filters, and exhaust systems for an ancient 2.2 engine. spend it on driving events and have way more fun! seriously, subarus are made for this and i'd be very surprised if you break something unless you somehow fly off the course.

the only car i've ever seen at a rallyx take any substantial damage was a junkyard SE-R that was being driven back to back by 3 people and was never maintained...and even then it was just a tie rod (worn part should have been replaced) and a blown engine (straight up neglect, they never changed the oil and it had been knocking forever). both avoidable.

i know mufflers and lowering springs get street cred at the parking deck meetings Smile but ask anyone here who's been down that path and they will tell you seat time, and the adventures it brings, is far better.

I'd rather my car last until I get out of college. Then I'd be glad to beat the shit out of it. I can't afford a new car let alone replacing something that I screwed up haha. Maybe a light stage of rallyx I'd do but right now I'm too broke lol.

And the lowering springs are only for the front, to compensate for the unevenness of the car due to having wrx suspension on a wagon. Makes it lower in the back.

Got the filter for free from the guy I got the wrx seats from and the sidemarkers for $10 from a junkyard lok

I have actually been looking for an old civic with a blown motor that I could rebuild and use that in a rallyx race. But still, I'm paying for my classes, and books without financial aid and it's tough when I'm trying not to take out a student loan haha

You guys are both missing the point. These rally x courses aren't through the desert with enormous jumps. They are just an autox on dirt. Scott drives a nearly stock RS and kills it. The likelihood of damaging anything is low just as a regular autox.

But still, I'm wearing the shit out of my car and putting extra strain on it. That car has to last me through college until I can buy a new one.

When I can have 2 cars I'd gladly rallyx it. Just don't want anything happening that I can't afford.

i promise i'm not trying to be a pain in the ass, just busting your balls about it. and trying to be encouraging! i've been in your shoes for sure...had a car at JMU and wanted so badly to do motorsports stuff with MM in it but i was always too scared of breaking stuff...so i know where you're coming from.

don't worry though, i'll continue harassing you at random intervals until you do it

If anything, there is less wear and tear than normal auto cross due to the loose terrain. I'd do it.

Back when I first started going to BRCC, I had my daily driven Wrangler, one locker, 35's, stock gears, and a Dana 35. If you know anything about Jeeps, you know Dana 35's break at the sight of anything bigger than 33" tires. However, I still beat on it. THAT was stupid. I did work full time then, but still helped pay for school and books. Plus, (to add to my dumb ass factor) I still owed on the Jeep. And in the following pic, the fenders are midway through a flat fender build. Drove it to Crozet to wheel with no marker lights and hardly any fenders. And on this day I did a rock crawl competition. Never broke it, and drove home. Stupid? Yes. Fun? Hell yeah. And by the way, this drop hurt a little...

Anyways, my point here is, have some fun with it! These guys here wouldn't tell you to do something if they knew it would damage your car. I'm still broke, have a DD w/ 250k miles that I plan to auto-x this fall, and even though I do have my Jeep I can drive for an extra vehicle, I never know if it will be broke or not from weekend to weekend. But it's all fun.

Lowering springs in the front in. Pro drive sprigs are much beefier than stock. Already starting to handle better. Next up is a lightweight crank pulley from grimmspeed since my stock one is shot. [Image: d31aeb20a5c30ffe656ba29e8d199863.jpg][Image: 8e0e96e346e05d35a0358ebad8fc0754.jpg]

Hey now, it's only because my car was uneven from the wrx suspension. The back wheels were close to tucked and the front were 3in from the fender. Lol

if the back is too tucked, before lowering the front more you might want to look into "saggy butt spacers", a couple vendors in the suby community make 'em. They mount on the tophats of the rear struts and give a slight raise without screwing with your strut travel or springrates.

looks good though, i need me some rally lights

I know, the springs were cheaper and leveled it out. Back still has about an inch and a half away from the fender. With saggy butt spacers id have to get new studs and would be more of a pain in the ass than just swapping the springs.

Just read this on my driver improvment class: Remember: If your passengers are hanging onto the door handle, making awkward foot motions on the floor when a stop has to be made, and saying that you have all the makings of a race car driver, they may be hinting that you take too many chances that are hazardous. If you hear and see these actions associated with your driving, it would be a good idea to monitor your driving ability. Don't wait too long, it might be too late.

Oops. My girlfriend does all of that... hahaha
