Went from $1216/yr for just me on the M3 in Norfolk (though I think I forgot to inform them that I got married) with Progressive to $918/yr with Liberty Mutual. This is for basic liability/collision/comprehensive (I'll be looking to raise my coverages soon, just too much other paperwork BS on right now). Liberty Mutual claimed to give me a bunch of discounts - not sure how many were made-up-salesy-things, I just made sure they weren't one-time things - for newlywed, JMU grad, wife is an MD...that's all I can remember.
After moving to Richmond, apparently it's gonna drop to $717...not bad considering I never thought I'd see it go below $1k/yr for a "sports car." Shopping around sucks, but I guess a few hundy a year is worth it.

Moto @ Progressive - up from $650/year to $9xx
Car @ Nationwide - up from $640/year to $1240
I've adjusted the Ducati coverage to get it down to the low 700s. I need to shop around on my auto and see if that rate is typical. If it is, my car ain't gonna last long.
Progressive auto is $615/year for the same coverage, including a marginal first purchase discount. Guess Flo is gettin' my cash.
Correction: $674/year
So I sold my Legacy and bought a Clubman S.
Progressive quoted me ~$660/year for the new car.
Checked Geico, where the 911 is, and they want $575/year.
Better still, the 911 goes down from $420/year to $338.

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth
So the wife and I are up and we have decided to shop around, got quoted for the Saab and the Fozzy at $750 for the year, $500 for home owners through Wells Fargo, and they are a broker, apparently checked all the major companies, and this quote was for SafeCo. Her dad does auto appraisals now and said they arent the easiest to work with, but they dont cheap out on repairs or anything.
Trying to shop around, any other suggestions?
Geico seems to be more aggressive on its rates lately than they used to be. I was with NCFB which was very reasonable, now that we are married my premium is cheaper to insure the Jag than the CTS and my wife's premium goes down. I am saving around $700/year

Wow. Just got my first insurance bill since dropping the bike. Apparently it was costing me 72/month for a 15 year old sport bike. how is that even possible? I thought when I set up the account it was like 30/month so I am going to have to do some forensics to see if it got raised somewhere. I've been unhappy with state farm for a while now - this might be the thing that makes me switch 2 cars, a truck and a camper, and a house to another carrier.

thats their business strategy now.
suck you in with a low rate and slowly raise it over time
Good thing insurance companies can't lock you in to longer term deals. You can shop pretty much whenever you want.

yep. but life is busy and the last thing on my mind is my car insurance bill. It just gets taken out of my account every month. When I happen to see it on my statement that reminds me that Ive been 'meaning to shop around' for at least a year.....
and thats what they are counting on.
and its also a pain in the ass to shop around - comparing to make sure the coversages are exactly the same, etc is quite tedious

Are you 25 yet? that still seems high. Even my ATS is only 84/month (before these suspicious rate hikes that are sneaking in over time if evan is right)

I noticed that the discounts decrease over time. Which made me curious, why ABS brakes were worth a $25 discount for 6 months, then suddenly only $20 the next six months. Do that to 4 or 5 of the "discounts" every 6 months and the monthly amount creeps up.

I'm still with Geico - full coverage on the 128i and liability on the M3. $98 a month with oh, two tickets on the record - neither are reckless. Maybe one ticket, dunno how long they stick around. One was from senior year of college.

Jake your ticket probably means nothing if it's from that long ago. They told me if I started my policy one year after my ticket it would drop the rate a few more bucks. They were right. Saved another $10/month by starting June 1 (ticket was in May 2013).

God carrying 2 cars on full coverage blows. I'm now paying $220/mo with 2 speeding tickets on my record, $100 for the BMW and $120 for the VW. What I don't understand is why driving ~2,000mi/yr in the BMW costs me practically the same amount as if I was driving 12,000mi/yr in it. :dunno:

2 drivers. Titan, Focus, CX5 and Lotus. Zero speeding tickets or traffic violations in at least 7 years.
$340/ mo. Allstate.
:finger:
Somehow the focus is the most expensive car, much more than the Lotus. No idea how.
I did shop around a few months ago. USAA was a little cheaper but not as much as I expected.
Moving my Lotus to Hagertys would cost almost exactly the same price, but have much better coverage, cover aftermarket accessories, and have a zero deductible, so whenever I get around to it Ill switch that over.
