Hey guys! For everyone who doesn't know me by my username I'm Garrett and will be president next year. I'm super stoked and wanted some input from everyone. Things that went good, not so good, or anything else you want to say. I thought there was already a thread for suggestions but I couldn't find it. Current members and Alumni feel free to pitch in. I more or less want to continue on what Dan did this year save a few things. I was thinking of having a few more "social" events, definitely want to get karting for each semester (compared to one), and moar racing (rallycross, drag, and more autocross are going to hopefully be on our schedule). I know some of the current members stated how we needed to get our name out more and to have more autocrosses so I'm working on some things to get our name out and am totally open to suggestions. I was thinking about having someone (mine or DJ or whoever) have their racecar parked out somewhere on or by campus. Shoot away with anything you feel is relevant to helping us officers make this year even better than last!

Did the race car thing outside of Festival a few years ago on a Friday, DJ brought the Rustang and I brought the Hatchpile, it was also the weekend of a Verona AutoX so it worked out well as far as timing was concerned.
I was very pleased with how things went this past year. Aside from participation at some of the events requiring a couple hours of travel, like VIR or an AutoX at VMP, but that is understandable, and I know college students flake out 90% of the time.
If you really want to get participation in drag racing, I think it would be easy to coordinate the Drag racing at VMP on the weekend there happens to be an AutoX at VMP.
Carshow turned out well. No changes that I know of needed.
Dont be afraid to utilize the alumni, we all seem like assholes, but more than likely we have tried an event you have in mind, so we can tell you how we failed or succeeded.
Get involved with BRR-SCCA, specifically Ray Schumin, he is more than happy to help out and plan co events with the club.
Introduce yourself, IN PERSON to Laura & Chris Cobetto, the club has a long standing relationship with NASA-MA. I know worker spots have been very sparse lately, but it is always good to keep a bug in her ear, and she has been kind enough to provide an MM room some weekends. Hyperfest may not be the best time to introduce yourself cause its a shit show, so hold off until maybe July.
There went my un cohesive brain dump, I am sure I will come up with more.
Thanks for the input! I'll definitely make it a priority to introduce myself to Laura. As for drag there is an 1/8 mile track right around the corner I believe (Sam was telling us this). So that wouldn't be far, relatively cheap (I think he said 20), and could diversify our racing. And I will always reach out to you guys for questions so no worries there (and that's part of the point of this thread, lol).

I talked with Ray Schumin for some time at the car show and he has received NO communication from MM in a while. Reach out to him, see how we can work together. Having a car show + autox same weekend is a no-brainer and I know I have talked about it before. It's sad that we haven't even TRIED to do that according to Ray.
Fundraising fundraising fundraising. I feel like I have talked about this for the past 4 years, and every year the officers have said we would explore other options. Nope, nothing, not even talked about it once they got in office.
I think Pete really helped us do this past social event. What about a lakehouse type thing for a weekend, or something to at least shove kids together and learn to play along and have fun.
Informative meetings, that were educational and had guest speakers. It was talked about...almost happened..and then got cancelled, thumbs down.

This one is sort of a stretch because it involves even more coordination than just trying to get MMers to go BUUTTT... VCU has a car club, VT has a car club, JMU has a car club, what if we do some sort of AutoX competition or something with a cash prize or something? (obviously we pay to enter etc.)
Like i said... a bit of a stretch but something to be considered for later i guess :dunno:

VT usually shows up, sometimes GMU, ODU and UVA. We have tried with VCU, I talked with who used to be the sponsor of the VCU car club, Jeff Elmore, he has the Silver BSP Porsche Boxter, and he gave up trying to get them out. They are a bunch of hard parkers with show cars.

Anything that involves more current students/members driving at events! I realize that's not an easy thing to do and it's obviously a goal, but I think everyone loves to see new guys trying out autox and/or track days. Autocross is definitely a great way to learn more about cars, make new friends, and get involved for a fraction of the cost of other forms of racing. Between that and drag racing, I think there is a ton of potential for the club, and helping the new members realize that is a key.
+1 on communicating with Ray Schumin. From my experience, BRR-SCCA is more than willing to help out and support MM, as long as there is good communication between the two groups. Plus Ray is hilarious; you have to love someone who just says it exactly how he thinks it.

I will definitely work on getting in touch with Ray Schumin. And that was the main thought about the other events was just to make sure all the bases are covered and no one is left out.

I agree we should talk with Ray Schumin more. More on the drag strip though, Eastside speedway in Waynesboro, 25ish minutes away and $20 on test and tune days for tons of runs. Also 25ish minutes away is Shenandoah Speedway, which holds Oval track racing near every weekend(i feel like), autocross-ish time attack events occasionally and drift events!

What about a Summit Point Karts event --- close to H-burg for students, and fairly close for most of the people that live in NoVa as well.

Yesh please! SPK is SO MUCH FUN and if we can pick a day/time to do an MM-sanctioned event there, I'd be 100% in.

The only problem I see would have to be planning ahead and the weather would have to be good since it's outside.

I'd love a SPK event - never been and it'd be awesome to go with 20+ MM'ers. I know in the past the fact that its more $ than GForce has been cited as a limiting factor, but if we can find a way to make it work that'd be a huge hit I'm sure.
Like others said the previous group of officers really brought things back from the year prior so just keep that momentum going - you guys have a healthy base to work from. The only thing I can think of as a suggestion - the car show was awesome this year, but I do miss it being in the C4 lot. We've gravitated to that chunk of R1 the last two years, which is fine, but kinda has that "meet in a random parking lot" feel to it, while C4 is a bit more structured and picturesque, with the trees (shade!) etc.
Id just like to see some more local events this coming year, which it sounds like is the plan. Im not familiar with the surrounding area yet, but these $20 test and tunes at Eastside sound like fun and Id be game for those.

I just scrolled through the google calendar to try and see if i could make anything around my job this semester, and I noticed it said "MM and ASP Cookout"...is a large part of the club apart of this fraternity (i am assuming it is a fraternity)? just curious..

Figured we would throw in some events with my fraternity to branch out. I'm going to be bring more people from my fraternity to our club. We don't have any other people from MM in it so it's more like a social gathering per say. And we are trying to figure out the SPK deal.
