Yep. I'll see if I can split posts and move this financial talk to a new thread.
Now:
'16 Ram 1500 | '97 BMW M3 | Some Press Loan
Then:
87 BMW 325e | 91 BMW 535i | 96 BMW 328i | 95 BMW 325i | 95 Mazda Miata | 13 Focus ST | 09 BMW 128i | 00 Pontiac Firebird | 05 Yukon Denali | 96 BMW 328iC | 11 Ford F-150 | 06 BMW M3 | 10 Range Rover SC | '03 Ford Ranger | '18 Ford F-150 | '01 BMW X5 | '98 Volvo S70 T5M
I'd suggest we make sure (tightly policed) that we arent pointing fingers... we should use this to generate ideas on how to make MM financially stable (again? lol)
please dont use the Greece bail out plan or the various US bail out plans
we've raised dues. to me that means short term. MM will have more money "now." We still need to look at longer term, passing from 2011 to 2012... and how we can account for all the events in between.

This. We need to start coming up with ways to increase cash flow in the long run.

Nov 5-6: NASA Fall Finale $???
Nov 12: MM Karting Enduro $???
Nov 20: NASA MA Autox at VA $???
March/April: Car Show $???

There's also the spring karting event.

For the 1576th year in a row, I suggest you all create a list of alumni, their addresses, and keep it up over the years (post up once a year saying "Do you know where XYZ is!?" if mail goes returned. We most likely do). Send us a formal plea for money, tell us what it's going toward. That simple. I would imagine that'd be good for ~$1k/yr.
Hell, you could even use e-mail, but make it prettier than "Hey, we broke, you ain't, GIMMEH!"
I know I could easily just hop on over to Paypal, but I feel something's missing with that. It's more like I'm bankrolling than donating.

^what he said.
FWIW, a few years ago alumni offered to match $$ for a a fundraising effort and that went nowhere also. So, step up...

Speaking from experience of running a club in college, the best way to sustain yourself is to have events where people who don't really care anything about your club give you money. Car events are okay, but they generally appeal to a limited market and that market isn't very liberal with cash.
What we found to be most successful was to sell something at school events that random people wanted, whether it be funnel cakes or bumper stickers. If everything is MM or car-related, you end up hurting yourself due to limited appeal.
You might also consider looking for companies that pay to hand shit out on college campuses. We made quite a bit of money by handing out an assload of Nescafe is college.
I've realized a huge moneymaker is a chick/car calendar. Get some random hot girls, give them some cash, get a super pro awesome photographer to take pictures and sell those bitches for $20/pop. Your production costs (read: paying models) could be as low as $300 and I think that sorta thing would sell like balls on a college campus.
Of course all this requires the donation of time from the members. Most will groan at the idea, but it's better than raising dues and still never having any money. This sounds like a lot of work to college kids... and it is... and that's the ultimate problem. College kids are lazy. The good news is if you actually come up with something to improve cash flow, you can put it on your resume. I've read my share of college grad resumes and I can tell you I'm much more inclined towards someone who has an actual accomplishment beyond not flunking out.

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth
Im sure alumni will be ok with scouring the campus to find hot girls to use in said calendar.

It's really quite easy if you have a photographer (or two) who know what they're doing. Like printing money.

I'd be impressed if I got a little postcard-deal in the mail from MM. All's it takes is some time in Photoshop and an email asking for mailing addresses...

Calendar is a pretty good idea. Put MM cars on it, and sexy ladies. I'd be happy to screen applicants from an advertisement.

I made this a few years ago, I think it worked OK
Just a challenge to the alumni... are you on the mailing list? would a yearly email help you remember to pay dues? :-P
Calendar (women + cars) is gainging some traction... go figure. who wants to take the lead on that? you are going to need standard release paperwork (google!)... check on printing costs... come up with a plan that includes the money needed. get your hands on as many women as you can afford and keep a stock pile of their pictures... and we'll have a head start on next year.

I think this would be a fun idea, and we have enough "cool cars" in the club (Deeeejaaaaay) that we could definitely get 12 to have some sl00ts drape across. I need to talk to the printers anyway, I can see about costs.
