JMULT1 Wrote:But in all practical terms, I'd go with the 350Z.
lol, isn't that an oxymoron?
it's probably fun, but i don't think it's very practical. I think the IS300 is an excellent mix with Price, "coolness" factor, practicality, power, and gas economy
i think the IS300 is plenty sporty when you opt for the 5-speed or get the sportdesign edition for $1700 more, includes Euro-Tuned Suspension and much more...i guess that's good
second thought it's worth the extra money imo if ur already goign to spend that much
Of the choices, I'd vote for the IS300. 4 doors, RWD, decent power, great looks, all of these can be had with the IS. Just make sure you get the 5-speed, otherwise it won't be nearly as fun. Also, you can always make it into a baby-hauler and get something more fun later too
The RX-8 is alright. The rear seat doesn't strike me as being particularly useful from what I've seen and I too am afraid of the rotary, despite the flak that I get from everybody. I think you might be dissapointed in the amount of power in it as well.
I really don't like the Z's looks. Otherwise, great car except for the lack of back seat and the price. The Nismo long-nose Z is much hotter, but you won't be getting one of them
I won't even give my input on the mkIV. Freakin fast, easy to work on, easy to make faster, limited use of back seat, absolute joy to drive- every time you take it out, best looking of your choices. All of these, but totally impractical car and I recently saw a stock 93 go for $32, so they're a bit pricey as well. I'd get it before I got the Z tho! (yeah, everybody saw that one coming ).
Make sure you test drive them all and whichever feels the best to you and will suit your needs is the one you need to get. I will say this though. I said for you to get the IS. It will feel like a porker compared to your celica, but a lightweight compared to your dad's mkIII. There is a decent aftermarket and the car is very capable of being a fun autoX car that you drive every day to work. I REALLY hope this is your plan so you can come out and join us at the autoX course, if not at the track  . Also, why not keep celica as a DD?? Insurance can't be much and it's still alive, isn't it? Run it into the ground! It's a Toyota, it can handle it
IS300 = Meh. I mean, it's cool and all, and 2JZ's are cool and all, but...bleh.
If you want 4 doors, get 4 doors and balls.

wheeeeeee
heeeelp, I've fallen and I can't get up. Sorry, been real nostalgic today cuz played early 90s music all night at work.
Ok... time for my input. It's short, but sweet.
IS300 - 4 doors, powerful enough, sexy, toyota reliability. PERFECT daily driver.
MKIV - Costs an arm and a leg, strictly a two-seater, Toyota reliability. Impractical, but fun car. I'd get a used Porsche instead.
350Z - Ugly (my opinion), strictly a two-seater, Nissan reliability. This goes in the same boat at the MKIV: fun car, but I'd get a used Porsche instead.

Lorena, we have been over this, remember :p
RX8!
none of those cars handle half as well as an RX8.
none of them look half as ugly as the RX8 either!
IS300. Solid all the way. Having driven a friend's '03, I'll say it handles great, has a slick 5-speed, and decent power. Could always use more power Looks hot too, 'cept for the rice-mobile taillights. And it's a 4-door, so baby-hauling wouldn't be too far-fetched (car-wise at least).

Kaan Wrote:none of them look half as ugly as the RX8 either! psshhh....RX8 is the best looking out of those cars by far. It makes an IS300 look like a civic.
we need a poll on how people think the rx8 looks. it seems it's either 'love it' or 'hate it.' i hate it.

Love the front end and interior, the ass looks uglier than maeng's mom. The body lines just arent right. Its that fucking suicide door thing, bring back the RX-7 (without the engine blowing feature).

RX8 is not worth it in my opinion:
I've sat in three and have had not enjoyed a moment in any of them.
The monitor for the electronic map option is made of a very cheap material and has the feel of breaking shortly down the line. Seating is also a cheap feel but has good looks to it. Sitting in the rear is a challenge, having to fight the front seat belt ia a pain but the seat itself play an important roll in pissing someone off. Trunk space in minimal for the size of the rearend of the car. The shifter seems very awkward, however I can't tell you what it's like when the car is running. I'm also not all that pleased with the blind spots in the car, the "b" and c pillars are placed in horrible positions!
Future Car Rant:
I know you had your heart set on the IS300, but as well versed as the engine may seem I find the car itself to be a bit less satisfying than others.
The instrument cluster may look like something I want on my wrist but not when I'm driving hard and need to pay attention to individual readings. I've never had much fun with the driver's seat, it has never really fit me the way I want it to.
The Nissan Z is nice, good motor and whatnot. However blindspots are still an issue and it's also rear wheel drive(which is a snow time no no).
Subaru's are nice, also consider :SAAB 9-2.
BMW has the 325ix and the 330ix both four wheel drive, but price is a factor.
Whatever you get make sure you check everything on it! Even a brand new car can have defects from the factory or the dealership! (dealerships love to hide accidents that happen on the lot!)
