WTB....uh....I DON'T KNOW! - LorenaBeana - 07-20-2004

So. I decided to test out the Z today. it's more money than I want to spend, but dude, I tested out the 2003 track model, and ... wow. Put it this way...I got back in my car, and checked to see if the parking brake was on. So, I'm having this crisis. Right now I'm at the point where if I want a cool car, I should get it now, because at some point I'll have to drive a baby-mover. So, I made a spreadsheet of all the finer points of a few cars. Now the dilemma is this:

IS300: Na supra engine, seats 5, relatively cheap BUT is it sporty enough?, very few 5spds
RX8: sporty, seats 4, BUT rotory engine?I'm not sure I want it, gas milage, blind spots
Z: sporty, very fast, looks good, BUT $$$ (G35 is way to $$$)
Mk4supra: too old, too expensive, and no, I would not consider an NA

Mom said I should get 4WD/AWD for my job. Dad said to consider a WRX Confusedhock: , which is really funny because he's definitely not a subaru-o-phile. But all this made me think:

S4: (2001-2002) 250bhp/lb/ft, AWD, seats 5, not TOO $$, BUT it's an audi, bad gas milage

What do you think guys. And no, 2 cars isn't an option. And I have absolutely no desire to be seen in an evo.

IS300. I'll post my reasoning later.

- .RJ - 07-20-2004

I would not get an S4. They're solid cars, and dont break often but when they do its $$ for parts and $$$$ for labor (unless of course you like torturing yourself, in that case you can do the work).

Another vote for IS300 or 350Z if you can swing it.

i like the IS300, i haven't driven any of the cars listed above so i can't relate recommending anything

- JackoliciousLegs - 07-20-2004

I really don't like the Z. Other options are good though. Z is bulky, impractical, noisy, small. It looks good though. Thumbs up for S4, RX8, and IS300. If you want crosstrain ability, IS300 seems like the best choice. If you're willing to shell out a little more dough, go S4/RX8 side because of cost of maintenance/gas mileage. RX8 maintenance is supposed to be excellend though.

- Sijray21 - 07-20-2004

BMW is also promoting a new campaign for their cars, heard it on the radio not too long ago. I'm not sure if it's exclusive to their 3-series, but Free Maintenance on all new (2005) BMW's for 4 years.

330i ? i like the new one's a lot

- Dragon - 07-20-2004

I vote IS300

- JackoliciousLegs - 07-20-2004

330 costs 35Gs...

- Sijray21 - 07-20-2004

thought the 330i was cheaper, the 325i is about 26K, but i wouldn't go for that.

any thoughts about the Infiniti G35 sedan, they also offer awd ~ $32K

EDIT: scratch that, it's only offered in auto

the rwd version of the G35 is around $30K though

i personally like the G35 coupe though Big Grin it's around $32K

JackoliciousLegs Wrote:Z is bulky, impractical, noisy, small

3200 lbs is "bulky" ? I dont think they are noisy either. Impractical only because it has 2 seats and its not really small inside (for 2 people).

FWIW... I've driven a friend's 350z a few times, and its a blast.

- Kaan - 07-20-2004

the fact of the matter is you are concidered esential personel.... as a nurse. she is going to have to get to work.... in ALL conditions. if i ever become a cop i'm going to be in the same boat. you will want something 4wd with ground clearance. so just get something fun and when you do have to drive a baby mover (dear god you want kids).... make it a 4 door truck 4x4

- JackoliciousLegs - 07-20-2004

I don't like the engine sounds from the 350.. and the rear is so small that it rivals the miata. Just buy a mazdaspeed miata instead.

Your path of logic baffles me.

- JackoliciousLegs - 07-20-2004

lol... ok, i was exagerating.. but it's really small

- .RJ - 07-20-2004

Space in the back is comprimised by that brace between the shock towers, but other than that its really not that bad. There's still space back there, and some decent storage behind the front seats.

- Feersty - 07-20-2004

Guys come running to help a female out. I would be most impressed if I saw a female in a 6speed 350Z. That is all.

i concur, i wish more girls knew what you knew Big Grin

- ScottyB - 07-20-2004

you've got an awesome list going lorena. i like the IS alot, despite the apparent lack of power. rwd sedans are always high on my lists. plus, if you do get a 5 speed im sure if you choose to sell it some day the rarity of that option will be to your benefit. plus, you can keep with the toyota heritage Big Grin i love the 350z, but if i was going to get one, i'd get the G35 instead, and by then that would be too expensive.

- Ryan T - 07-20-2004

I've got it. Go ahead and pop for a Porsche Cayenne. 4wd..ground clearnace..power..sporty..and you won't have to trade it in later when you have to haul around children. Smile

But in all practical terms, I'd go with the 350Z.
