Yeah Yeah I know it's the same day as the VT Car show...
BUT For those of you with less shiny bits under the hoods of your cars and a serious yearning to get faster or just try autocross in general there is no better place than the BRR-SCCA Rookie School at Verona. Have you just started autocrossing and want to drop some serious time? You'll have an instructor in the passenger seat observing you and helping you figure out where you can go faster. You can even let them drive your car if you want for a lap to see what kind of laptime the car has in it and set a goal for yourself.
We always have good instructors and this year we added a few MM'ers to that list! (feel free to chime in guys)

Doing this event and having somebody guide your driving is like cramming years worth of autox experiance into 1 day.
It *MIGHT* even be good training for the next college challenge...HINT HINT.

I would prolly go to this if it weren't the day of the Car Show. Lots of seat time is always good...

But for those of you who are coming to the Car Show, we are going to caravan down to Verona on Sunday morning to the Points event.

I agree with Dave's assesment, even those who consider themselves experienced should do this. Its ALWAYS a good idea to have someone look at your driving. I considered entering the school myself, and I have over 7 years of autocross experience and over 50+ autoxs under my belt. (19 alone just last year). You can always learn, but I saw they were looking for instructors so i offered.

I've been thinking about entering as a student too just to break in my new Kumho's
Honestly though I had 3yrs experiance (on and off) when I did my rookie school, 14" Falken Azenis, etc and was sure there wasn't any more speed in my car. My instructor (Monta Elkins) taught me that I wasn't using nearly all the braking or grip in the car. I'd also have Scott Krzastek drive my car, ride with me, and give me advice. Needless to say it's paid off. Sometimes someone else's $0.02 can be priceless.
Justin (my brother) did the rookie school before he did his first actual autocross and has done really really well since.

I think you'd make a great instructor!

I am working on Saturday, hopefully driving on Sunday.

I think Justin may be making his triumphant return to autocross this weekend too. I always remember this event taunting me before finals week.

Can you request an instructor? I just think I would be more likely to listen to someone I know than someone I'm meeting for the first time

You can probably hint around to it, but everyone there is pretty cool so you won't get anyone really crappy. They usually try to get people with similar cars to instruct you (I instructed another miata driver last year), and the good news is that Peter and DJ just happen to be BMW experts of sorts and registered as instructors....
I won't be instructing this round...had to take Ghist 101 because I didn't take it at my transfer school (I've already done Hist395 and 2 400 level History classes lol) and guess which class is having its exam at 8am Saturday April 30th? F*cking lame. I'll be working at the autox school after 10 though.

I'm not going to make it on Saturday, but I'd like to get in on the autoX Sunday. Not currently an SCCA member, but can I still pre-register?

You can still pre-register. There's an option for "Non-SCCA" when you click through everything. All payment is done on Sunday AM, so bring cash with you then.

It's getting down to the wire so if you're entering Saturdays school, working, or whatever try to let chike know on the BRR-SCCA message board.
I'm definately looking forward to this weekend!

I guess I should actually go in the garage and spend some time on the car. It's been on jackstands since the last event.......

Yes, there are loaner helmets if anyone needs them. All we ask is that if you use one, return it between your runs so that there are enough to go around for others
