Project: neglected E36

Not much to report, car is chugging right along, 2300+ miles since purchase.

Noise is right rear wheel bearing. It's on the list with RTABs and those swaybars and a brake light switch and oil change and a/c idler pulley and guibo. Looks like I need to re-do the valve cover gasket because there's still a minor leak in two places. Car could probably use an alignment too. No hurry on any of this... it'll soon be TDI Season™

RR wheel bearing was a tricky job but is finally done and the humming noise is gone:

Brake light switch and oil change are next, maybe alignment etc. Not too worried about it, no hurry. Nearly 3100 miles since purchase now, and the car is almost enjoyable to drive.

~3500 miles now. Freshly aligned, oil changed, and state inspected (not due for another 6 months but why not, etc.)

Next up: right rear parking brake adjustment/repair - been effed ever since wheel bearing job - and the stupid valve cover gasket is leaking oil again, guess I didn't use enough RTV. And I need to put the swaybars on eventually.

Otherwise the car is purring like a kitten.

And yes, the front toe was way off.

Current settings: about a degree and a half negative camber front/rear, and zero toe front/rear (remember, it's a street car!)

Dunno when Packer's car will be back on track, he's pretty busy with other stuff right now.

As for mine - I think I'd rather have a nice ugly GTS2 car

But, no plans to prep this one for any sort of racing. Yet.

Thread back from the dead, this car is still chugging right along, nearly 8k miles since purchase. It hasn't needed much lately (valve cover gasket again with more RTV this time, oil change, brake light switch, replace corner light that fell out randomly) but it will need some stuff soon... I think the right front caliper is sticking, and the front pads/rotors are pretty worn. Perhaps because I did a few laps @ Summit in Aug

Oh also the driver door still doesn't lock and now the passenger front door doesn't open from the outside. I may fool with all that eventually, and put the swaybars on too. No hurry as usual.

Some old bitch in a Santa Fe lane-changed into me at 25mph a few weeks ago then lied (told State Farm that I lane-changed into her.) Luckily I saw her coming and moved over so it was just a scrape, no bent metal. Not that this car is pretty in any way, shape, or form but it's the principle of the whole thing. Not much I can do at this point, State Farm says it's my word against hers, but it was frustrating. Meanwhile that peeling-paint spot on the hood is now bigger, and it has some matching spots on the front bumper cover ever since the hurricane. And a variety of new "parallel parking marks" from the neighborhood. Beaters FTW!

This may be my primary transportation over the winter, the TDI may be going away shortly so I can special-order a shiny new German thing for early 2012 delivery. We'll see

So this green 325i will be going away shortly. After 10k miles with virtually no issues, other than the small stuff detailed in this thread. Great car! It's going to a local karting buddy who will soon be turning it into a HPDE mule... and later probably a NASA Spec3 racecar. Thus endeth the thread/story, unless I can get him to join and continue it.

What will I be daily driving until the '12 GTI arrives, you ask? Just picked this up yesterday:

I would like the wheels... if they were bigger than 7.5 and had something bigger/better than 225 Bridgestone RE760's.

Luckily, I found someone who wants 'em as soon as I get around to ordering K1's/245 Star Specs

LOVE IT! Didn't your green M3/4/5 have LTWs too? I'm assuming you're keeping this one as a toy after the GTI arrives. I remember asking you if you missed your green M3 when you had the TDI and the thousand yard stare you got is what convinced me to never let go of my E36.

Had DSII's on the old one... staggered set and/or square 8.5 set, then also K1's for several years. Sometimes two of each  Pics of that one: http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150152561525602.403807.811445601&type=1&l=fb9646d6c4

Anyway, yeah, that green car rocked, and this silver car will hopefully rock too. It is DEFINITELY staying around after the GTI arrives, and may eventually get a LSx swap
