It's like a turbo... without the pesky engine to drive it! Well, really, it's like a turbine engine. I'm not even sure this is something new.

Sounds pretty suspect to me. Emissions would be terrible. And the claim of 60% efficiency sounds way too high, I can't see how this would do a better job of capturing heat. We'll see!

25 kw = 33hp. and thats what he "hopes" to develop. and my guess would be this produces less torque than a hamster wheel.

it kind of sounds like just another dumbshit inventor errr 'scientist' trying to swindle research dollars.

well FWIW, he's touting it as an engine for hybrid vehicles, in which case 33HP, low torque, and something that just runs and charges all the time would probably be ideal. At least for something like the Volt that's really an electric car with onboard charging. :dunno: Which is probably the way to go instead of the "Prius" hybrid model.

Obviously there are better engine choices for hybrids since they just need fuel converted to electricity and don't need the torque and response of a piston engine... this or some turbine engine variant seems like the right path until we get the cost of fuel cells WAY down.

yeah, technology is technology so if this thing really is the dogs bollocks then I wouldnt doubt that 33hp would quickly turn into 100hp. or they could do the rotary thing and chain a couple together.
I was a little unclear about their prototype they developed. was it demonstrated as running, on some kind of a dyno? sounded to me like it was just on display?

LOL....what i would give to see a 5 rotor quinturbo'ed shockwave penismightier generator. put it in a prius and go pimping.

i had the same reaction as a main powertrain...it would need a CVT or you'd never get over a speedbump. but as an onboard battery generator it makes alot of sense. 60% thermal efficiency also sounds hilarious and not possible at all.

for emissions, i wonder if you chained one shockwave generator the other's exhaust, so that it's like a post-burn scavenging unit. i have no idea how you'd keep it from melting though, what with it ingesting blazing hot exhaust as it's intake.

i just realized, is this on diesel or gas? i was trying to figure out the spark layout and diesel suddenly made sense once you get the burn cycle going.

Thought I had.. would the additional aerodynamic drag created by attaching an air scoop (F1 style) to a car's roof / hood that is used to turn a turbine that powers a generator be greater than the energy produced by that generator while moving :dunno:

That'd have to be one hell of a scoop to sap 33 HP. More like a sail.

I think it mentioned it could be adapted for many fuels. I assume you just put household garbage in a grinder, add some water, and feed it in there. :dunno:
