Yeah, sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. It takes some adjusting to get used to the car on street tires, and I wanted David to drive on r-comps.

I did the points on my car for the 3rd time last night for fun. Looks like 39 again, including all the modifications I have that come stock on m3s and a generous 150lbs of weight loss. Stuck myself in B anyway. See everyone Sunday.

Anyone, heads up ill be there till the end of the autox, as im in Heat 3 if your worried about everybody else dipping way out early or being in the same heat (I always wanted to be in different heats so I could watch but thats me.

....howd u get 39 points. im just wondering, im on the bare edge of C without cams, headers, cat-delete, 150lb weight loss. does a 325i with s52 swap have a lower base than an m3? wouldnt make sense with the weight difference between the chassis..

If you dont mind could you post up your base class along with all modifications? Shit ill sell the M3 (legit) if I can get headerback exhaust, 150lb weight and cams and still have everything I have. All this applies to TTC where im trying to run but if somebody bruings something like you have equal driver ill be mauled. If thats true ill just say f it and HPDE it afor a few years and decide where im racing from there.

Damn, if I remove my x-brace and put back on my stock cat-back, both a 5 minute affair, im back in TTD because im not running r-comps. That or just run undertired in C. Does it really matter for this event? no, but....lol

Wanna know my theory about how to win TTD/NXD? Start with a class F car that's 9/10ths as good as an E36 M3, i.e. the E36 328. One of those with konis, ground controls, swaybars, 235 Hoosiers, M3 cams, computer, diff, weight reduction, and every points free mod you can afford (clutch/flywheel, poly bushings everywhere, camber plates)... is a top-of-D car :thumbup:

I would have to agree after doing a points thing. Except I I would do 225 hoosiers as they are nearly as wide as 245 hoosiers in 17-inch sizes. I originally bought the M3 as I thoght it would be the best lapping car, and its been a blast. It also fits decent within TTC in which case im going to maximize what I can do. And if I decide to, ill get a restrictor plate and run GTS2 by just adding a cage and some safety equipment. But if somebody can throw in the m3's brakes, diff, engine and be classed lower than a base m3 AND weigh less (E36 325i base weigh tis lower) then its retarded to continue down this road.

I'd run that thought by Greg Greenbaum before spending a dime.

Allowing something like that at one regional autocross, and having it be possible in TT, are two different things :wink:

You know what would also be a kickass NASAX-D car? a 1998 Eclipse GSX, no joke.

+3 LSDs all the way around, front, center,rear (once oyu take a point for it you cant take multiples correct?)

D class AWD, I could probably tune (dsmlink is free) to about 230awhp/260 torque (yay small stock turbo that will grenade itself all the time) with diffs all around, and 235 A6 hoosiers.

What do those things weigh? Base weight is under 3200 iirc, can you get one down to that with driver, comfortably?

Stock weight is 3186, so lightweight wheels, carpet, stripped interior, remove airbags, aftermarket exhaust, 8 speaker sound system, leather powered seats, stock amp, spare tire, glass moonroof. Yeah I think you could get it easily to base weight with driver comfortably (well depends on your comfort level lol the springs and shocks for a dedicated autocrosser wouldnt be comfortable anyway).

Plus has the advantage of better CoFriction, CoFrontal Area, and independent double wishbone suspension all the way around compared to my m3. But does have 59/41 weight distribution......AWD makes up for that right :wink:

You ever fix that AST sway bar setup? Ill be getting those whenever I can afford them and I was just wondering.

Also rear diff? are you running a different ratio? I noticed in the rules as long as I keep it the samee style LSD I dont take points if I go to lets a 3.46 or 3.64 and im curious, with an upped redline from my 6500 to 7000 with the chip a 3.46 or 3.64 might be in my future to get a little more torque out of the corners.

PS- I was scared shitless that your type of car would be in my class as it would be eventually some person would come with your setup into TTC and id rather prepare for it then get blindsided.

Thanks to all the current students that made it out. We made a strong Madison Motorsports showing, lets keep this momentum going for this upcoming Verona Autox.

Unfortunately my codriver and I had some bad luck, we both got in our morning runs, and then we were going to switch cars. Well after David's morning runs in his STi, he started getting some nasty noises from his front end and decided to retire it. We go...okay...whatever, we will run the M3 all afternoon. Heat 2 comes along and his brother Alan Wampler loses his starter. Well shit we aint having much luck, oh well, lets get in the ole reliable M3. Jump in the M3 for the first run and get up to the starting line. I launch hard and BAM!.....wtf was that? get in the throttle a bit....BAM!. Shit, somethings wrong....real wrong. Get it into the pits, move the car a bit forward with someone watching...BAM!, apparently the diff moves likes its me drunk on a dance floor....all over the place. Broke the rear differential's front bolt. Apparently a common issue on these vehicles. So I had to retire my car for the day, but at least got in my mornings runs.

Happens, cant say im too surprised, cars already seen 20+ autocrosses in just barely over a year, tons of pace car duty, daily driver duty, and 6 hard days of tracking on summit, shenandoah and NCCAR.

Something was bound to happen at some point. NASA autoxs are always a blast.

I really did enjoy the day... good course design, nice and fast but required some skill which was appreciated. I was pleased with my results, it felt like I was driving the hell outta the car, and maybeeee could have done a little better still.
