iRacing?
#1
Anyone tried iRacing yet? I'll need something to get me through the winter. I like the idea of structured races and real tracks, though I understand it's a bit on the expensive side. I wasn't impressed by the feel of rFactor and like LFS but for the lack of real tracks. Of course, if you all are playing console racers, maybe I just need to get a console. :dunno:

Yeah the delays suck but it was because since Sony got the game 4 days late from the producers they missed their time allotted at the blue-ray production plant and have to wait till December. Its going to be an amazing game though the waiting sucks.

Want to try it? We could check it out for a month for 12 bucks and report back. Pretty sure I'm going to have to buy VIR. What track you need?
I guess ill install it and see if I even have the hardware for it...

I've am going to need CMP and Mid-Ohio (in addition to SPR and VIR). I am researching wheels and petals now for it since I don't think you can use it w/ just the keyboard

CMP is fun

Yeah, keyboard would be miserable even if it were supported. I plan on using my gamepad with analog sticks (much like console controllers) as I've never been too excited about spending money on a nice wheel/pedals. I've never felt one that was right enough (that I wanted to afford) that I liked it more than a good but relatively cheap gamepad and my well trained thumbs. I currently have a Saitek with analog buttons too, it was like $40.

sweet, they have a 3 mo for the price of 1 deal right now. Sounds like we should try it. I wish I knew if this laptop would run it acceptably....

CMP in Dec. for the Spec Miata shootout, and Mid-Ohio next year for NASA nationals is all I have planned as of now for "away" trips

Hit run or if you have win7 or vista search for dxdiag and run it then go to the display tab and post what it says.

Ah I plan on going to Mid-Ohio for the NASA Nationals, but wanted to see if anyone wanted to do maybe NJMP, watkins glen, beaverun. Thinking of renting a spec e30 or something for a trip down to Sebring International Raceway

wow.... installed today and it appears to be awesome. Spent an hour just running around Summit in my Solstice, I was quite impressed. And even happier that it runs well enough on this laptop. If anyone does want to sign up, put my email in as a referral please! ecpreston at yahoo

The 3 for 1 deal ends on the 31st....

So you have a PS3 a computer that can play this game, and $50 for GT5, but that same $50 isn't available for 3 months of potentially the best racing sim made and a gamepad? :evileye:

Yeah they really don't make any concessions for those without a wheel (me), such as some type of steering input filter. LFS had that which makes it pretty good with a gamepad, but this is taking some practice.... I can totally see the argument against it though-- if smooth is fast, then a filter that smooths out your inputs is cheating! :dunno: I think I'll get by for the solstice and other "big" cars, but formula car racing might not happen.

FWIW, the Gran Turismo version of Laguna is laughable compared to what I just drove. It's hard!
