DMV Registration shenanigans

Car/Homeowner's Insurance is something you pay for that you hope you never need. You don't want anything to go wrong when you DO need it.

Your insurance isn't based on where you garage your car, it's based on where it's registered, correct? If you garage it in Harrisonburg but have it registered and insured at your home address you should be fine.

I have my car garaged in the 'burg, since I'm there most of the year, but I pay insurance and have it registered in Fairfax. Nothing illegal about that as far as I can tell.

also where the car is "garaged" is where you pay property tax on it. So if you have it registered in nova and garaged in h'burg you will pay the property tax to rockingham. The insurance thing won't hurt you. My wife's car was registered here at my home in Augusta and the dealership screwed up when the sent in the info to dmv and had it garaged in h'burg. We didn't notice until the tax bill came in. She was in a accident where a truck ran head on into another car and the wheel and spindle off the truck took out the front of her car totaling it. Long story short the cop wouldn't for some screwed up reason include her into the police report. So she filed on her insurance and te=hey covered it no questions asked. The reg. and garaging issue never came up. I don't think they care where it is "Garaged" at as other states don't even have this garaging thing.
