Installed an aluminum radiator with 2 fans and new blingin samco hoses.
According to DSMlink cars temp is around 216, whether sitting at a light or going 80 on the highway. During a hard pull it went up to 219. Lowest I've seen it stay steady at is 210.
Thermostat opens in a pot of water slowly starting at 180 to fully open at 195.
Burped the system a million times with heat on full blast.
No obvious/visual leaks.
Added a turbo blanket and heat wrap and temps have not changed. Reason I'm worried is 2 others with the same setup (DJ and Jason) were seeing temps of 190.
Coolant mixture of about 70 water 30 coolant with a bottle of water wetter.
Thoughts on wtf is going on?
If its staying under 220 not sure what the problem is - if you want to be sure its bled, jack the front up as high as you can and bleed it again (I'm assuming the radiator cap is the highest point on the cooling system)

Yea it is I may try that, I wouldn't be worried if every DSM person I talk to freaks when I tell em my temps and they are closer to the 190-200 range with the AC on and its 90* outside.

Only thing I can think of is that not enough air is going through the radiator or that the radiator is not as blinging as you thought, assuming that the thermostat is working 100%. Are both of your fans running full time - it could be messing with your highway temps... What temperature do you have the fans set to turn on at?

220 is fine for a honda or miata but considering the factory starts pulling timing at 206 and progressively pulls more timing as it gets hotter is not only a sign that it shouldnt be that hot, but also thats its dangerous. I wouldnt even let my gsx get above 215 degrees when I was on track, needless to say everyday. My car bounced off the thermostat. (188 degrees)
I would say check the radiator just to be absolutely sure so your not driving yourself insane. The radiator was on both Jason and Is and I never had a singe problem. Jason did, but then we threw in a new turbo (be bought a POS for his first turbo), and once we put in my GT2871r his temps cruise around the 190s....You should have bought my oil cooler setup if your thinking of tracking that thing.

Oh and for those wondering, the turbo must have been massively overheating with like an oil clog or bad bearing or something. The only difference is the gt2871R is not water-cooled, only oil cooled. Strange that a turbo would make a difference of that amount, probably just made a difference cause I did a good bleed of that system once we put in the turbo.

Plan as of now is to try a 170* tstat and a new cap, we will see what happens, but I'm open to other suggestions
I would start with the just the cap maybe. If the t-stat is open at 195 and it won't go under 210, then being fully open any earlier won't matter. Open is open. A lower temp t-stat will allow a car to run cooler, but can't make a car run cooler.
What are your fan on/off temps? Though, that shouldn't really matter over 30-35 MPH :dunno:

I have a little bit of a rub near lock but if you are turned to lock on a track there are other problems already...

+1. Wouldn't waste the time. Issue is elsewhere.

maybe the temp sender that's telling you 210+ is wrong? :dunno: That's a 10% error, not that crazy...

Thought about the sensor but its like $60, to just buy and not solve any problems, dunno of any like resistance tests to do on it to make sure it works.
I thought you were the one that had a IR thermal probe - why not use it?

Its my dads and 60miles away. And steve my fans are always on.
Not hating, but man someone always says "it's the sender" and it's rarely the sender or the sensor. Those things are pretty bulletproof.
My suggestion:
1. Cap
2.go visit your dad and thermometor
3. regroup.
I feel for you, hate coolant problems almost as much as electrical problems. This better be fixed by the 30th.

WOOT, installed 170* Tstat, and 16lb cap, cruising temps about 180-183*, sitting at a light for a few minutes it went up to 186*. Sitting in my driveway after riding around for 20 minutes was steady at 193* and with the A/C on it jumped up to 216* after sitting in the driveway for about 10 minutes on full blast. Gonna turn the fans off and lower the temp they come on at so they aren't always running. The real test will be at the autoX. Now im running just Water w/ a bit of coolant, the little coolant tester says im good to about 10* so I will add some antifreeze this winter.
