I really, really want to. Kind of going along the lines of Apoc's downgrading thread, I really don't feel the need to get a 30-40k+ car right out of college (via loan...ugh) that I used to. I'd rather spend less than half that and build a car I already have/love that has given me a pretty big paradigm shift. Something along the lines of the ultimate two man bank robbery vehicle. Turbo included.

Or you could learn from all of us that have gone that path before. Buy> Build. I still like building if I had plenty of money and time because I work on my own cars religiously, but in your case, I would really suggest you buy over build. Mainly due to tools, space, and experience (this is last on purpose, you dont get experience till ya do it) constraints that you have.

Get out of college, get a job, spend at least 3 months doing it and find where you are. I was shocked at how little time I have now with a job, and how that kills any motivation to work on a "project" car. And I am HUGE into building/wrenching. The m3 is a blessing, yeah it isnt nearly as fast/cool, but I get to drive it and do what Ive wanted to do instead of being under the car. GSX is getting done this week, and ill miss the hell out of it. I dont expect you to agre with me now and you may just throw away this post, as I would have a year ago. Now that im here? I wish I had listened to advice 4 years ago and gotten my racing career really going instead of working on a "cool project car". Make yourself happier, dont do something cause its cool.

^ What he said. I got burnt out on working on the car all the time. A race "weekend" started mon/tues and continued on to the next mon/tues, if nothing bad happened. And there was always time in between race weekends too. This was after I spent a year instructing and sorting out the car.

If you want simple, then race bicycles. I dont have to do anything other than spend 15 minutes cleaning it before a race Tongue

buying pre-built still means you have to wrench. sometimes more, fixing the shortcuts and messups of the guy before you.

the real moral of the story is dont drive modified cars unless you are willing to spend your free time covered in oil and grease (and i dont mean with RJs sister).

Exactly? Thats the whole point of this car for me. Experience wrenching, building, and driving. Buy someone else's shizz? Nah.

Quote:Its an early 90s beat up car that worked its butt off for me.. Now its not really as reliable as I would like it to be, so wanna dispose it off. The KBB retail price is 5100, excellent is 3200 and good is 2500 and I am ready to part with it for 4500$, but not a dollar less... Ofcourse, I do not have all maintenance records and changed oils by myself, or it was my bro', sis', uncle, aunt, and all in the family... but the condition is better than excellent and you will not regret buying this piece of work. There a couple of dents, the paint is dulled a bit and there may be some parking scratches, but that is just like an ageing wine, nothing to hold against. The dealer is ready of offer 5300$ whether or not I am going to buy another car from him, but it is my benevolence that I am trading this in craigslist.. So hurry, the offer will not last long. For 4500$, this beauty is yours to keep. Only serious enquiries, and NO low balling. Thanks.

Yes yes yes. 1985 Renault R5 Turbo II

Buy Me! 1985 Renault R5 Turbo II... in Oregon

Given how close everyone is to pulling a Fred Flintstone and yabadabadooing the hell out of the office for the weekend, allow us to provide you with a quick little diversion. Behold what could possibly be the most gorgeous example of a Renault R5 Turbo II we've ever set our eyes upon. This sucker wears the same paint it bore from the factory, and with a scant 25,500 miles on the clock, it's as close to new as anything from France, 1985 can get.

Inside, nearly everything is original save a few choice modifications. The stock steering wheel has been given up in favor of a suede Momo piece, and the factory buckets were swapped for a set of period Recaro thrones. They are the perfect shade of late '70s brown, and we love them. The owner points out that unlike most R5s, both the dash and door panels were never cut for a stereo.

If you're fretting over the fact that this car has had less than 1,000 miles put on the odometer ever year, don't. The seller is the second owner, and claims this set of hips-with-wheels has been meticulously maintained by none other than the experts at Ron Tonkin Gran Turismo Ferrari. You know, the oldest authorized Ferrari dealer in the States? Yeah. Those guys.

If you want it as badly as we do, get ready to fork over a serious chunk of change in a hurry. As we write this, there are less than two days left on the eBay auction, and the starting bid of $47,500 has yet to be touched.
