Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post

Yeah it turned out pretty well and was a lot of fun. I'd be down to do it weekly if people were interested in doing so. Only problem is I won't be able to get the second TV again unless I buy one. We could use the 27 in we have I suppose.

I definitely wanna have another launch get-together for Forza 3 and COD4/Modern Warfare 2. By that time though my company will have moved into a pimpy new office with a nice rec room so it might be better to just do it there.

Who else would be down for ODST at my house next week? DJ do you have a LIVE account?

I haven't played COD5 but I think so. You get ~8 lives to start and you have wave after wave of Covenant coming at you until you get killed basically. The waves have random mix of enemies except for every 5th one that has Brute Chieftains that are much tougher than the other bad guys. If you can beat that 5th wave you get extra lives and ammos. Every fifteenth wave you get a bonus round where you have to kill a bunch of the little guys to get extra lives. I like it because you get to do a lot more killing than you do in normal Halo3 multiplayer. In that 2 hr game with DJ we gunned down over 1000 bad guys. Fun stuff.

Played around with the Forza 3 demo for a little bit last night. Looks signficantly better than Forza 2. The sensation of speed feels like they've fooled with a bit so it feels like the cars are going faster than they are. I don't really feel a big difference in the handling as of yet.

The rewind function is kind of nifty but at the same time feels like cheating. I guess it'll help you learn tricky sections of new tracks much faster but hopefully the leaderboard laptimes will indicate when someone used a rewind during a fast lap. Definitely gonna pick this up next month.

i'm certain online leaderboards won't allow use of the rewind.

I like the idea of the rewind for a couple situations, but the fact you can use it as much as you want during a race is kinda dumb. If I blow a start, it sure would be nice to just rewind, not have to restart the entire race - especially in the really close races (manufacturer spec, etc.). I don't know home much time I've wasted restarting races because some dumb AI knocked me off track.

Has anyone decifered the symbols on the leaderboard? I can see that some are indicating if you are using ABS, TCS, but the ones on the far right - i have no idea what they are.

also I tried using the manual w/ clutch on the controller - impossible.

maybe if you move the buttons around but it seems as if you definitely need a wheel for that.

You guys using the controller or steering wheel? Maybe I just need more practice, but I just can't seem to make small steering inputs on the Forza games with the controller. I usually play the Need for Speed stuff because the kids can just hit the gas and bounce off stuff, but I feel like I can be more precise in those games. (Maybe the reaction is muted to make it easier to play, I dunno)

And the Dirt series...is there a "drive anywhere" option or is it all race based?

Yeah it takes some adjustment to get used to the sensitivity of the thumbstick but I imagine there's a sensitivity setting somewhere you can turn down if it's too twitchy. I know when I used to play F355 I had a dead grip on my Dreamcast controller because I was trying to very hard to isolate the movement of my thumb. I guess that's just what you have to deal with on console racing sims.

i built an elaborate pvc driving rig for forza 2, used it, loved it, then went back to a controller just cause i was lazy one day [have to piece the rig together] and shaved significant time off my laps. realism < going fast.
