"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth

What is a favicon?

Dave Wrote:What is a favicon?

It's the little icon that shows up next to (or otherwise around) the URL of this website. Ours is the black square with yellow M. If a site doesn't have one, you'll see something generic (in Safari, it's a blue globe thing). I thought I had ours set, but it was in the wrong place, so it only showed on the home page. Fixed now.

Okay, so Cabell alerted me to an issue with this automatic image resizing. Some pictures were being resized properly, and others weren't. I thought it was a URL thing, where the plugin couldn't parse the URL of the image properly. Eh, it wasn't. Some settings in the control panel for the forum were wrong. Sorry for the heartache, but it's fixed now.

IMO, in its current state the "search" feature for a user's previous posts is pretty jumbled. Is there any way to install a "find posts created by...." feature in each user's profile? This is a typical feature on the other boards I'm on, and has been invaluable for me to find topics that I remember someone started that I want to see again

The Problem: Too much beer. Ok, this really isn't a problem of beer, more a problem of refrigerator space and shelf life.
The Other Problem: Too little beer. This is so horrifying that I can't even continue this sentence without getting a tear in my eye. 'Nuf said.
The Cause: Lack of a registration/signup plugin for events. We had this on the old forum, and it was good.
The Solution: Some sort of registration/signup plugin thingy. This may fit the bill, and purports compatibility with phpBB 3.x: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.phpbb.com/mods/db/index.php">http://www.phpbb.com/mods/db/index.php</a><!-- m -->? ... ib_id=3129

PLEASE fix the link issue. I can't stand not being able to follow any link posted on this site because it shorten's the URL.
Why do people just post what they are thinking? Without thinking.

the links work when first posted, but if a post is edited the link changes to the truncated version.
I would support taking about the url shortening alltogether. tries to solve a problem that doesnt exist IMO.

Blargh. I had the Link in New Window/Tab working and now it's borked. Sorry. These next few days are going to be busy for me but I'll try to work on it. I don't know why the URLs are getting shortened but that is supremely annoying.

Edit: I fixed the funked-up URLs. They should work fine in any future posts. Sorry for the weird behavior... phpBB is quite the odd beast.

I am working on event registration, with PayPal integration for paid events.

I'm finishing up work, packing, and moving back to HBurg this week - then I'm gonna be an orientation guide so site upgrades/fixes will have to be put on hold for a bit.

And by the way, if those of you who have more time and some phpBB experience would like to help out, you are more than welcome. Just shoot me a PM and we'll chat. I'm hoping to find a current student with some web interest but until then, you're stuck with me and my time schedule...

I'm thinking (hoping?) that Nexpoint, our super duper web host, had a server crash or they were upgrading whatever servers our site is held on. That would explain the need to rebuild the database 2-3 times last night and the total outage this morning.

Once us officers are settled in at JMU and we have access to the bank account (terrifying I know) we'll definitely be researching new hosting options and the associated costs.

I'm hoping things remain stable today. I am leaving in about 15 minutes to move back to Harrisonburg and get stuff set up. Any issues will have to be dealt with as I have access, unless Adam or other admins catch it and have time to fix it.

its going really slow today

For right now, it's still on Nexpoint. Aka, it's still hosted for free. I looked at my friend's server (that was the $20/year deal I mentioned earlier) and I don't know how much faster it would be. Plus there's the issue of moving databases, etc. across servers. For now, I'd like to get the forum software and design tweaked to everyone's preferences, then deal with our hosting later.

so uhhh... I wonder how many of us have actually been productive at work the past few days

Nexpoint is horrible. Their entire server was down today - like, the Nexpoint.net homepage and all.

Trust me, as soon as orientation week is over, the officers will be switching our hosting. These outages are ridiculous.
