Best Virus Software

Computer keeps crashing, blue screen of death every other day, pretty sure i have a virus or something. but i dont know much about computers. otherwise whats some good virus software. or other reasons my computer is doing this BS. Windows XP OS

This is the answer. Julie's laptop has been protected by AVG free it's entire life (3+ years), and we have never, ever, had a problem. I suspect your problem is larger than a simple virus.

could very well be a hardware failure. be prepared to throw it in the trash if the reformat doesn't work.

I have Norton and haven't had any problems for 3 years... now though on my netbook i just downloaded JMU's free one. See how that goes.

reformatted, whole new machine, just guess it needed a good dusting, prog gonna upgrade the memory to, can do upto 4gb, i think im only at 1gb now

i use Kaspersky - f-ing awesome

AVG was a bit of a performance hog and actually caused me problems when i stopped using it

just using AVG right now, but i realized that the inlaws just bought a copy of Kaspersky for their PC, it can go on 3 PCs. Think ill give it a try.

I just had pat redo my PC, its 4 years old now and the video card apparently took a dump. 80 bucks in new memory and decent video card along with whatever he is doing will fix it. Im not spending 500-1000 on a brand new pc when the one I have does everything it needs to. Hell the only game I ever played on it was Counter-strike which needs to graphics of a 10-year old.

+1 on the AVG, I used the free version on my laptop for 4, almost 5 years now, haven't had a bit of trouble.

I will just chime in, that I haven't used a virus scanner since 2004, and haven't lost a bit of data. Usually if you pay attention what you're entering, and where you're clicking, there's no problem.

i've never used a virus app in my ~25 years of using a pc.

when i was young, i had a hard drive wiped completely clean by a trojan.
when i was in college i got a weak virus that i was able to kill myself.
just a few weeks ago i got another that was a bit of a pain, but i eventually wiped it out.

i download a lot of porn and illegal software. common sense rules the day... each time i've gotten something, i had a momentary lack in judgment.

i don't understand how regular computer users can be so stupid to get viruses... if you're not "hacking" and dealing with apps that can be seriously tricky, there is no excuse.
