I'll just chime in and say I really like TMobile. Right now I have 1500 minutes (although no unlimited nights/weekends) for $40 a month + $5 for text messages (400 or so.) Very rarely do I get into situations where my coverage differs from someone with Verizon.
They also offered my unlimited minutes for $50 each month for being with them for so long, although it really wasn't worth spending the extra $10 to me (I usually use about 1/2 of my 1500.)

I have a Pearl on AT&T and have no complaints. I've called customer service twice in the 10 years I've used them and both problems were resolved without having to call back or escalate the issue.

I have a PEarl on AT&T w/ enterprise data plan. According to my pearl the Internet has been broken for 4 days.
The only thing I can recommend when considering a fancy phone is: always remember the replacement cost or just get insurance. I had an iPhone, then I lost it. Cost of replacement was more than I cared to pay for a phone, so now I have the Pearl.
I jumped ship from Verizon to AT&T back in October 2007. I switched for the iPhone, but have played with other phones on their network (swapping SIM cards is so easy). I have a cheapie $20 phone that I'll put my SIM card in and use for track days or going places that I would get the iPhone messed up or broken.
No complaints about service. I drop signal for about a 3 mile chunk of I-66 East, but it seems all carriers will drop there. Same deal for the top of whatever mountain 33West is part of... nobody gets service up there.
I'd avoid the iPhone if you're really rough on your phone or lose it a lot. Water damaged iPhones are $199 replacement cost, lost ones are $399/$499 because you have to buy a new phone. No clue why AT&T doesn't offer insurance on the phone.

Well yeah, but almost any other subsidized phone (on any network) can be had with insurance... about $5 a month, then you pay $50-75 if you bust up your phone. I treat my shiny toys nicely, so it doesn't matter for me, but a lot of the world could use the insurance.
Anyway, the BlackBerrys are nice phones. What about the Bold on AT&T? The Pearl - last I've seen - runs a slightly older version of BB OS, if that bugs you or hinders functionality compared to 'newer' BBs. The only truly bad Blackberry I've used is the Storm, all the others are pretty good.

The AT&T Pearl is on 4.5 now. I think the Bold is running 4.6 but going from 4.2 to 4.5 was a huge leap.

I looked into AT&T, but their plans aren't as competitive price-wise as Sprint is right now.
I just got back from a more local Sprint store. This sales guy was leaps and bounds better than the other one. He analyzed my needs, listened to what I had to say, and actually made some thoughtful suggestions that would help me save money. Unfortunately for him, he wouldn't budge on helping me nullify Verizon's early termination fee. I gave the other guy a ring, he told me they'd apply a credit to my bill when I bring in the bill I get from Verizon. Which of course I'll get in writing.
Kind of a shame! I really wanted to give this other guy my business, but I even told him my only big concern was the early termination fee which I thought was bullshit and he couldn't overcome it. He told me that most people don't think it's that big of a deal unless it's $100 or over. That was his fatal mistake I think.

The 4.5 version is a lot more like Opera Mini. They now have a cursor like OM and it also renders more naturally, but still won't do full sites. Sometimes I've found Opera to hang on the "Connecting..." when I haven't used it in awhile but the regular browser still works. I actually find myself using the Bb browser ~30% of the time now instead of never.

I love my storm, my first BB. with the new updates ive heard its way better than when first released. and the storm 2 is apparently gonna have wifi, which pisses me off that i prob wont be able to switch. But never fails that something better comes out 1 month after you got your version. The wife had the 8830 BB and she loved that. I came from a motoQ though, which could possibly be the biggest piece of fucking garbage ever. I dunno if it was the phone or the Windows mobile that sucked. Regardless never getting a moto phone or any windows based phone ever again.

Ive found that mini doesn't work so well on the storm, i just dont think it gets along with the touchscreen, with the trackball on other blackberries im sure it works wonders
Thanks for all of the helpful insight guys! I switched over to Sprint and my girl and I both picked up Curve 8330s. Supposedly it's a pretty decent phone. FML I'm addicted already. My OCD kicked in ASAP as I had to rearrange all of the icons and stuff haha. My buddy was telling me that crackberry.com has tons of hybrid OS's for the BB that are pretty much the shit (developed by BB engineers as freeware) so I'm going to do some browsing when I'm not slammed with work and check them out.
The sales rep is also crediting my activation fee which I was stoked about. My buddy instantly lamented my decision to move over to Sprint, saying I was going to have tons of dropped calls, coverage issues. I had dropped calls with Verizon too it probably won't bother me much if that's the case.

Download SoftReset from the web. It lets you reboot the phone without pulling the battery.

My friend has a Q and it is garbage. Motorola dropped the ball on the batteries - even with the extended battery he can hardly make it through one day. WinMo doesn't quit apps, so that's what actually kills the battery. Plus, he can't upgrade to a newer version of WinMo. The Q reboots itself whenever it wants - including during calls - and does other janky shit too. Needless to say, he's excited to upgrade in a month or so.

Congrats! I think those BBs are pretty stable, good devices. My dad had a BB for years before switching to JesusPhone, and it held its' own very well against other smart phones of the era.

You know, I have a Q9c, and I have no problems with it. The biggest problem I've yet to have is the phone somehow thinking I'm making a voice call and not going to the webbernets, but I can get 3 days out of my Q, and easily a full day with the GPS running all day.

i know they run Winmo 6.1 so they are definately software upgradable.
On any winmo phone you have to make sure the setting is correct for the data connection to disconnect after 2 or 3 minutes of inactivity. If the data connection is always on this will murder your battery.
And there should be a setting to allow you to completely close out of apps by holding the X

Yeah, I know on Rex's phone, we are extra careful about going into the task manager and killing the applications when we aren't using them. That way they aren't running in the background draining the battery.
