The Zombie Preparedness Thread
Dave Wrote:As much as I liked the plantation idea, it sounds to me like the the official MM rendezvous point in case of zombie attack is the grounds of VIR. I believe it already has chain link fences all the way around too, which is a big plus, so we'd just need to set up a good barrier at the entry point.

we may not even need a good barrier. i doubt zombies like gravel. you cant even get near the VIR paddock without getting gravel or dust all over everything you own and how tasty can brrrraaaaaiiiiiiiiinnnnssss... be when its got gravel all over every single wrinkle?

i think it'd be pretty fun to let atleast one of the zombies in so we can race it. how hilarious would it be to punt the zombie going into hogpen and watch it's car go up in flames after hitting the tirewall?

Mike Wrote:goodspeed, we probably ought to come up with a list of areas highly likely to develop zombies. from there, we can come up with a better plan.....given that information, i think africa, australia, and south america sound like good places to be. of those three options, south america is probably the most livable.

Good suggestions, but there are some issues with them. Barring the fact that international travel will be nearly impossible, I'd figure Africa to be rather hellish given the already poor standard of living and lack of medicine. Ammunition and weaponry would be abundant however, but you'd need it to fend yourself from the exponentially increasing African population nee zombification.

Australia would be nice*

*Reminds me of this novel and film called On the Beach in which a US Navy submarine crew joins survivors in Australia after a nuclear war, but the fallout cloud gives them a few months to live and one character is a race car driver and he chooses to take a pill to end himself while sitting in his race car (I think its a Jag) in his garage. Good story.

Fucking right I would. I keep a knife on my person at all times. Also, when Zombies attack I'm not concerned with anyone but myself, and Rex.
Whoa whoa kid! Way too much hostility! We're fighting against the zombie not the penis! This is why the wives need to make a separate base and arrange for their husbands to stop by for conjugal visits.

Good point Mike, I agree that any major city and surrounding suburbs needs to be avoided. Really, mountainous areas and back country like the Appalachians would be ideal because it's very unlikely any zombies will wander that far. Plenty of food, plenty of wood for fuel. Least likelihood for man-made compound, but we could find something. Some place like Montana with its super low population density / acre would work. Or even further north in Canadia. IF I had to stay in a metro area for some reason, I'd go for the richest part of the town and take over the nicest house I could find that was completely gated. At least I'd be living in style while zombies gnaw at the metal fence!

Problems here:
1. Appalachians are too close. After the zombies get through with the east coast, guess where they're going!
2. I would not want to go North. North = cold. Cold = need heat through winter. Heat = burning something. Burning = draws attention. THINK ABOUT IT.

Battery powered chainsaw? Come on now. If you were worried about zombie guts clogging it up, an underpowered electric motor on batteries will guarantee this. And the runtime of a gas one is likely WAY longer. Besides, the scene of you running into the crowd of zombies is significantly less cool when accompanied by a harmless whirrrrrr. Those zombies are going to LAUGH at you!

its not as hardcore as the gas one, but for covert supply gathering, that thing would be cool.... carry it easily, and if you see a zombie in your path, take that sucker's head off.

you need this guy if you want to get into a zombie mash pit:

no battery powered anything I've ever used has ever matched its plug in, or better yet, gas powered alternative in torque or power. Case in point:

Not to mention, you can carry a small flask of gas/oil to keep the chainsaw running forever. Are you going to have like 10 charged batteries in a tool belt? Or charge it with some solar charger? Screw that.

Late to the party, but I believe going north would be a great idea.

I'm assuming of course that zombies will still share most human physiological traits, and their flesh will freeze if not insulated from the cold.

I'm saving my shotgun rounds for an active threat, I'll hope that the rest of the idiot zombies suffer from starvation and hypothermia. Maybe I'd see you guys at VIR after a month or two, depending on how the infestation shakes out.

I figured I'd share something I saw the other day at Gander Mountain, it seems that Mossberg has already thought of offering a shotgun packaged for emergency use. It's the Mossberg 500 J.I.C (Just in case, clever) Cruiser. It already comes in it's own waterproof floating case with a survival kit and room to pack a couple other things.

The first thing I would do in a Zombie crisis...oh BTW I stopped reading other's responses at page 3.

Anyway, my first action would be to kill Derek, Zombie or not. With a single 7.62 round to the head. That having been done, I would gather only 2 weapons. My 9 shot mossburg pump and my AK-47. Reason being, as Rex said a sidearm would be almost useless. The AK and the shotgun would be manageable. The shotgun would be hacksawed down as far as possible as well. My puma WhiteHunter knife would also be vital to the situation.

Once I left here I would go strait to Woodstock and dump the convertible at the garage for the 03' Jeep Wrangler with the hardtop. I would hopefully meet up with un-zombiefied relatives if there were any and Sylvia and head for the mountain with as much food as I can pack in my vehicle and theirs. If I was on my own the plan would remain the same.

Once in the mountain I would go to my cabin and set up there. It is secluded and I would see anything coming that would be a viable threat. There is a CB and a regular radio up there, along with a generator, propane gas, firewood, gasoline, and other raw materials needed. Assuming I bring enough food I can live rather well assuming I will be able to have success hunting small game.

I figure I could wait it out there, no Zombies would wander that far into the woods when there are plenty of good brains to eat in the cities.

The shotgun I have was available in that kit. But mine is the marine version. It has the water resistant "marinekote" stainless looking finish and the JIC tube for the marine ones is orange. However I don't my exact model came like that, its a 590 (military model) with 9-shot tube and 20in barrel.
