I've got Michelin Pilot Sports on there now and they're very low so I've got to start looking for new tires. Considering I haven't made my millions yet, I'm not dropping $200+ per tire like the previous owner. I'm thinking Kumho Ecsta SPT. Thoughts?
What are you going for? I doubt there is much bad weather out there that warrants all seasons, so are you shooting for just a summer tire?

scotty's recommendation are good as well. Depends on what you want, performance or treadwear???? or a compromise???? Is road noise a big issue for you, etc...
I'd like quiet, good treadwear summer tire (so good performance is understood). Good performance to me is Ecsta ASX quality or higher. Nothing like what I have now is necessary.

quiet, good wear, and performance... dont you have to pick two?

i'll ask my former coworker (also with an e36 M3) and see how he likes the ASX's i recommended to him about 2 years ago. he should be able to provide a good review.
that would be my vote for best budget performance tire
I've been looking around too, I have an inspection this week and I don't know if my rears will pass. "everyone" on bimmerforums has been raving about the Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 - but thats a summer only tire.
I know Fick has BFG KDW2s and loves them - if they can hold his car on the ground yours will be no problem, however they may also be out of your price range
What sizes are you looking for?

I like them on my car.

For street tires, I don't really care how much dry grip they have. I have a separate set of wheels and tires for the track so my priorities are price, treadwear, noise, then finally performance. If you plan on using your street tires in autoX's or at the track your priorities will surely be different than mine.
The tires that I've tried and am fairly happy with are the Fuzion ZRi, and the Kumho Ecsta ASX. On the other hand I thought the Sumitomo HTR Z II was a terrible tire. It developed uneven wear and basically had poor construction... although it did feel fairly grippy.

Yeah, Hunter, I think you got it. I don't care if my street tire can deliver over a G in the turns... because I'm not doing that. I want any summer tire that has great wear and low noise. Ecsta SPT is winning so far.
which ecsta (ASX or SPT) is the replacement for the ecsta 712?

It's the SPT. And I just realized I had the 712 and not the ASX, I had forgotten what mine were called and asx sounded kinda familiar. :dunno:

I love my Falken 912.
more than enough grip to drive like a jackass, quiet, cheap, and wear is great so far.
I really liked my Fuzion ZRi's - I will probably buy them again as my next set of tires. Goodyear GS-D3's are a complete waste of money.
Why do people just post what they are thinking? Without thinking.

i have the 912s on the hatch, but only have about 50 miles on them... not sure how i'd like them in a low-profile rwd setup, though.

well if we're recommending stuff we currently have...
i like my falken fk452's alot.....i'll probably buy a second set, which would be the first time in my life i buy 2 sets of the same tires.
they are grippy, cheap, have a decent lifespan for summer tires, handle incredibly in rain and have a medium sidewall so it will absorb bumps but won't ride like a school bus.
