"World renowned tuner and hot rod king Boyd Coddington died at 6:20 am this morning of as-yet-unknown medical causes. Coddington, founder of Boyds Wheels and designer of prize winning custom cars, had recently been twice hospitalized for an undisclosed medical condition. Thought to be in recovery, rumors began circulating today about his untimely death. A spokesperson for Boyd Coddington's Corporation has confirmed to Jalopnik that those rumors are true. The company will be releasing a statement later today."
RIP. That guy made some really beautiful hotrods.

Damn...He was a great builder.
I like how he used to design a car then call his customers to find one that pay for him to build it.

It shows how much of a dick he was because half of his guys went to go work for Foose. Hell even Foose left his ass.

While I couldn't agree more, I thought I might give him a pass for now.
I think karma got him though.
Bonneville is the Daytona/LeMans/Nurburgring of the Hot Rod world. He caught a lot of shit recently when his crew dug huge ditches with the hauler going into a marked off soft spot. Tore up the salt BAD, at a time they are trying desperately to rasie money to save it. Not exactly the kind of final memories you want to leave behind at your personal Mecca.

I don't think a lot of people liked him, but he was a great car builder. That's just how some people handle their business and everyday lives, by being a dick. That shouldn't take away from his talent and legacy of cool cars he created.

Perhaps it should?
I know that when I find out my favorite (athletes/builders/businessmen/whatever) are dicks that it usually seriously detracts from my appreciation of them. I'll do business in other places if I think the owner/manager or whatever of one place is a lunatic or a cockjockey.
Just my .02, though.

I think he was a dick too, that doesn't mean you need to treat your employees like dog crap.
From most of the stuff I watched, he didn't create anything more than trouble for his employees, who were the ones creating "his" creations. I guess I have a lot of respect for him, at least as far as being a has-been, I'm sure in his day he built some cars, but he didn't seem to carry himself as someone I'd want to buy a car from.
Either way, I wouldn't wish death on anyone, and it'll be interesting to see what happens with the company.

Oh, and I was more upset when the grumpy old man on the show died a few years ago. He seemed to know more than the whole company combined, as least as far as fabrication.

At the top of each company that makes probably 75% of the things you buy every day is a rich dickhead who treats a lot of people like shit. Just because they don't make a TV show about those people doesn't mean you're not supporting them

Fair enough.
I'd like to also add that I obviously didn't know Boyd personally, so I guess I shouldn't pass judgement anyway, I wouldn't wish anything bad on anyone, and who gets portrayed properly in reality TV anyway?

That's basically what I was going to say as well.
Did anyone happen to check out his Wikipedia page though? They have an entry where his death was falsely reported once before and I've never heard of it.
This is according to good ole Wikipedia:
"His death was mistakenly reported once before after several automotive news sites reported him deceased. The details were correct, Boyd having choked on a spaghetti dinner while using the restroom. He did however survive the incident."
I don't know if it's factual or not, but goddamn that's funny!
Too bad he died, but his cars sucked, his show sucked, and his shirts sucked too

But really he wore that same kind of shirt every day. It looks like George Costanza's father's cruise wear.
